Ionic composition of precipitation at the Central Anatolia Turkey
Tuncer, Burcu; Bayar, Banu; Canan, Yeşilyurt; Tuncel, Süleyman Gürdal (2001-12-01)
Concentrations of major ions, SO42-, NO3-, Cl-, H+, Ca2+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+ and conductivity were measured in approximately 300 daily, wet-only rain samples collected at a permanent rural station between 1993 and 1998. Concentrations of anthropogenic ions NH4+, SO42- and NO3- were among the highest values reported in whole EMEP network, suggesting that the Anatolian plateau is under strong influence of distant emission sources. Although transport of pollutants have significant influence on the chemical composi...
Ionic composition of aerosols at Northwestern Turkey
Tokgoz, Deniz D. Genc; Dogan, Guray; Ilhan, Ali Ihsan; Balta, Tulay; Tuncel, Süleyman Gürdal (2015-01-01)
In this study, ionic compositions of 350 aerosol samples collected between April 2006 and May 2008 in a rural area at Northwestern Turkey (Black Sea coast of Turkey) were discussed. Ions accounted for approximately 30% of PM mass. Contributions of secondary aerosol species (NO3-, SO42- and NH4+) were higher than the ions with crustal origin. This indicated that sampling station was under the influence of long range transport because there were no industrial emissions around. Concentrations of ions demonstra...
Ionic composition of rainwater on the Black Sea Coast of Turkey
Tuncer, Pınar; Tuncel, Süleyman Gürdal; Department of Environmental Engineering (2019)
Composition of rainwater is a measure of pollutant deposition to marine and terrestrial ecosystem. Soluble fraction of wet deposited pollutants are even more important because they are bioavailable to fish in the sea and plants on the land. In addition to their harmful effects on plant and animal life, inorganic ions, trace elements and organic compounds in rainwater can also be used as tracers of long-range transport to receptor. In this study, chemical composition of rainwater samples collected at Amasra ...
Ionic composition of lower tropospheric aerosols at a Northeastern Mediterranean site: implications regarding sources and long-range transport
Koçak, Mustafa; Mihalopoulos, N (2004-05-01)
Daily bulk aerosol filter samples were collected at Erdemli (36.6degreesN, 34.3degreesE) on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey for a 4-year period between 1996 and 1999. Concentrations of the water-soluble ions (Cl-, Br-, NO3-, SO42-, C2O42- MSA(-), Na+; NH4+, K+, Mg2+ and Ca2+) were measured in a total of 610 samples. In addition, three-dimensional (3-D), 3-day back trajectories of air masses arriving daily at Erdemli were calculated to determine potential aerosol source regions. The results indicated that ...
Cyclic behavior of Adapazarı silt and clay mixtures
Pekcan, Onur; Çetin, Kemal Önder; Bakır, Bahadır Sadık (null; 2004-01-07)
Within the confines of this paper, it is intended to understand cyclic behavior of clayey silt and silty clay mixtures, sampled from Adapazarı–Turkey. For this purpose, series of cyclic triaxial tests were performed on the samples retrieved from five selected soil sites, where buildings founded on these soils exhibited significant foundation displacements. After consolidating samples to 0.50 atm. cyclic loads were applied to simulate 1999 Kocaeli-Turkey earthquake shaking. Volumetric strains were recorded b...
