On the effect of structural forces on a condensing film profile near a fin-groove corner
Akdag, Osman; Akkus, Yigit; Dursunkaya, Zafer (Elsevier BV, 2020-07-01)
Estimation of condenser performance of two-phase passive heat spreaders with grooved wick structures is crucial in the prediction of the overall performance of the heat spreader. Whilst the evaporation problem in microgrooves has been widely studied, studies focusing on the condensation on fin-groove systems have been scarce. Condensation on fin-groove systems is actually a multi-scale problem. Thickness of the film near the fin-groove corner can decrease to nanoscale dimensions, which requires the inclusio...
ON THE FICKIAN DIFFUSION OF ORGANIC PENETRANTS IN GLASSY-POLYMERS
TOSUN, I; Yılmaz, Levent (Wiley, 1982-01-01)
Fickian diffusion of organic penetrants in glassy polymers is formulated as a moving‐boundary problem, and the effect of concentration‐dependent diffusivity on the concentration distribution is investigated. The solutions obtained for concentration‐dependent and constant diffusivity cases are compared. The results show that the concentration distribution curves differ both quantitatively and qualitatively. It is concluded that the sharp advancing boundary between the glassy and rubbery regions is due not on...

ON THE EFFECTS OF INFLOW CONDITIONS ON THE WAKE OF WIND TURBINE MODELS AND POROUS DISCS
Hassanein, Abdelrahman Hisham Ahmed Sabri; Perçin, Mustafa; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2023-1-18)
The study investigates the effect of two inflow conditions on the wake of a model wind turbine, namely, homogenous isotropic turbulence intensity and streamwise gust. For the effect of the freestream turbulence intensity, the wake of a porous disc with a comparable thrust coefficient was used to further highlight the differences in their wakes and decay characteristics. Results show that the wake of a wind turbine model has a faster decay rate than porous discs under both freestream turbulence intensities. ...
On the Optimization of the Microstructural and Mechanical Properties of Model Ni-Based Superalloys Through the Alloying Effects of Refractory Mo and W Elements
Eriş, Rasim; Akdeniz, Mahmut Vedat; Mehrabov, Amdulla (2022-05-01)
In the design and development of next-generation Ni-based superalloys, the addition of refractory impurity elements not only induces better degree of bonding strengthening, but also helps in maintaining structural stability of the constituent gamma and gamma ' phases. Therefore, in this study, the potential contributions of X = Mo or W atoms to the electronic properties of coherent gamma/gamma ' interfaces as well as their effects on size, volume fraction, and shape features of gamma ' intermetallics in mod...
