Design of an experimental FMCW weather radar
Coşkun, Salih; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür; Koç, Seyit Sencer; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2015)
FMCW Radars are used in many applications including weather surveillance. Transmitting during the entire observation interval makes them efficient in terms of required power. They are also cheap and easy to implement. This study which was conducted as a master's thesis, is a radar system working at X band. In this system, 0.8 Watts continuous electromagnetic wave which is modulated with a frequency ramp of 30 MHz bandwidth is generated and radiated through the transmit antenna. The scattered signal from the...
FMDBMS - a fuzzy MPEG-7 database management system
Erçin, Nazif İlker; Yazıcı, Adnan; Department of Computer Engineering (2012)
Continuous progress in multimedia research in recent years have led to proliferation of their applications in everyday life. The ever-growing demand in high performance multimedia applications creates the need for new and efficient storage and retrieval techniques. There exist numerous studies in the literature attempting to describe the content of these multimedia documents. Moving Picture Experts Group’s XML based MPEG-7 is one of these studies that makes it possible to describe multimedia content in term...
Decoding cognitive states using the bag of words model on fMRI time series
Sucu, Güneş; Akbaş, Emre; Department of Computer Engineering (2017)
Bag-of-words (BoW) modeling has yielded successful results in document and image classification tasks. In this study, we explore the use of BoW for cognitive state classification. We estimate a set of common patterns embedded in the Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) time series recorded in three dimensional voxel coordinates by clustering the Blood Oxygen Level Dependent (BOLD) responses. We use these common patterns, called the code-words, to encode activities of both individual voxels and group...
FMCW radar altimeter test board
Vural, Aydın; Hızal, Altunkan; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2003)
In this thesis, principles of a pulse modulated frequency modulated continuous wave radar is analyzed and adding time delay to transmitted signal in the laboratory environment performed. The transmitted signal from the radar has a time delay for traveling the distance between radar and target. The distance from radar to target is more than one kilometers thus test of the functionality of the radar in the laboratory environment is unavailable. The delay is simulated regarding to elapsed time for the transmit...
A novel modeling methodology and performance improvement technique for DMTL phase shifters
İstanbulluoğlu, İpek; Akın, Tayfun; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2006)
This thesis presents distributed MEMS transmission line (DMTL) phase shifters, emphasizing the circuit modeling and design as well as the performance improvement. A novel modeling methodology is introduced for DMTL unit sections, with bridge widths larger than 50 μm. The introduced model is compared with EM simulation results and the CLR modeling results. For structures with bridge widths larger than 50 μm, the introduced model fits the simulation results much better than the CLR model. The simulated struct...
