Tin effect in formation and photocross-linking reactions of tri-n-butylstannyl methacrylate-allyl chloroacetate copolymer
Rzaev, ZMO (Wiley, 1998-09-30)
Radical-initiated copolymerization of tri-n-butylstannyl methacrylate (TBSM) with allyl chloroacetate (ACA) was carried out in the presence of benzoyl peroxide as initiator in benzene at 70 degrees C in nitrogen atmosphere. Monomer reactivity ratios of the TBSM (M-1)-ACA (M-2) monomer pair were determined by the Kelen-Tudos method: r(1) = 1.25 +/- 0.02 and r(2) = 0.13 +/- 0.005. From copolymerization kinetic data the Values of effective energy of activation (E-a) and orders with respect to initiator (n) and...
TiN(IV) oxide coated gold nanoparticles: synthesis, characterization and investigation of surface enhanced raman scattering activities
Elçi, Aylin; Nalbant Esentürk, Emren; Department of Chemistry (2017)
Noble metal nanoparticles (i.e. gold (Au) and silver (Ag)) have received enormous attention due to their superior optical properties related to localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) and their potential applications in sensing, imaging, catalysis and optoelectronic devices. In particular, the ones with anisotropic morphologies have attracted intense interest from the researchers because of their superior optoelectronic properties. High electromagnetic field forms on the nanoparticle surface. The intensi...
Nickel diffusion coating on austenitic stainless steels & its effect on stress corrosion cracking
Ögel, Bilgehan (1999-04-01)
The effect of electrolytic and electroless nickel diffusion coatings was studied on stress corrosion cracking (SCC) behavior of AISI 304 anstenitic stainless steel. The nickel coating was diffused at the annealing temperature range of AISI 304 steel. It was observed that the diffusion process improves adhesion of the coating to the substrate. The electrolytic Ni-coated and diffused 304 samples showed better resistance to SCC (ASTM G 36-87), when compared to plain AISI 304, 316 and 321 stainless steels. No f...
Zinc borate production in a batch reactor
Gürhan, Deniz; Eroğlu, İnci; Department of Chemical Engineering (2005)
Zinc borate is a flame retardant additive used in polymers, wood applications and textile products. There are different types of zinc borate having different chemical composition and structure. In this study, the production of zinc borate that had the molecular formula of 2ZnO.3B2O3.3,5H2O was studied. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of reaction parameters on the properties of zinc borate that had been synthesized by the reaction of boric acid and zinc oxide at the existence of the seed...
Copper nanowire network based transparent thin film heaters
Tigan, Doğancan; Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah; İmer, Muhsine Bilge; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2018)
Metallic nanowire random networks are highly promising as transparent thin film heaters (TTFHs) due to their significant optoelectronic performance and thermal conductivity. Typically silver nanowires (Ag NWs) are utilized as TTFHs but in recent years, copper nanowires (Cu NWs) started to replace them in many applications as an economic alternative. The electrical conductivity of Cu is almost equal to that of Ag and it is much cheaper than Ag at least in bulk form. However, stability of Cu NWs is a lot poor...
