Ultra-fast charge exchange spectroscopy for turbulent ion temperature fluctuation measurements on the DIII-D tokamak (invited)
Uzun Kaymak, İlker Ümit; McKee, G. R. (2012-10-01)
A novel two-channel, high throughput, high efficiency spectrometer system has been developed to measure impurity ion temperature and toroidal velocity fluctuations associated with long-wavelength turbulence and other plasma instabilities. The spectrometer observes the emission of the n = 8-7 hydrogenic transition of C+5 ions (lambda(air) = 529.06 nm) resulting from charge exchange reactions between deuterium heating beams and intrinsic carbon. Novel features include a large, prism-coupled high-dispersion, v...
Ultra-small oscillation amplitude nc-AFM/STM imaging, force and dissipation spectroscopy of Si(100)(2 × 1)
Özer, Hakan Özgür; Atabak, Mehrdad; Oral, Ahmet (2002-12-01)
Si(100)(2 × 1) surface is imaged using a new nc-AFM (non-contact atomic force microscopy)/STM with sub-Ångstrom oscillation amplitudes using stiff hand-made tungsten levers. Simultaneous force gradient and scanning tunneling microscopy images of individual dimers and atomic scale defects are obtained. We measured force-distance and dissipation-distance curves with different tips. Some of the tips show long-range force interactions, whereas some others resolve short-range interatomic force interactions. We o...
Ultra-Sensitive Dual-Band Metamaterial Absorber Based on Symmetric Resonators
Sabah, Cumali; Dincer, Furkan; KARAASLAN, MUHARREM; ÜNAL, EMİN (2014-06-18)
Ultra sensitive metamaterial-based absorber (MA) which acts as a strong dual-band resonator is designed and constructed. The proposed model is based on symmetric ring resonator with gaps and octa-star strip (OSS) which allows maximization in the absorption at the resonances. Two maxima in the absorption are experimentally and numerically obtained with good agreement. The numerical studies verify that the dual-band MA can provide perfect absorption at wide angles of polarization and incidence waves. The prop...

Ultrathick and high-aspect-ratio nickel microgyroscope using EFAB multilayer additive electroforming
Alper, Said Emre; Ocak, Ilker Ender; Akın, Tayfun (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2007-10-01)
This paper presents a new approach for the development of a microgyroscope that has a 240-/mu m-thick multilayer electroformed-nickel structural mass and a lateral aspect ratio greater than 100. The gyroscope is fabricated using commercial multilayer additive electroforming process EFAB of Microfabrica, Inc., which allows defining the thickness of different structural regions, such as suspensions, proof mass, and capacitive electrodes, unlike many classical surface-micromachining technologies that require a...
