Effect of microvoids on anomalous moisture absorption of quartz/BMI composite laminates
Hurdelbrink, Keith R.; Grace, Landon R.; Güloğlu, Görkem Eğemen; Siddique, Zahed; Anderson, Jacob P.; Altan, M. Cengiz (2014-01-01)
Copyright © 2014 by ASME.The focus of this paper was to investigate the effects of microvoid content in quartz/BMI laminates on both short and long-term moisture absorption dynamics. The moisture absorption characteristics for the laminates were experimentally obtained by water immersion tests at 25°C of three-ply quartz/BMI samples that contain voids, ranging from 8.6% to 13.7% by volume. The void levels were obtained by conditioning the prepreg at different moisture levels for 48 hours in an environmental...
Effect of recycle on radiative heat transfer in the freeboard of a fluidized bed combustor
Selçuk, Nevin; Gogebakan, Yusuf (2005-05-25)
Effect of recycle on radiative heat transfer in the freeboard of a fluidized bed combustor is investigated by applying a previously developed 3-D radiation model to the prediction of incident radiative heat fluxes along the freeboard walls of lignite-fired 0.3 MWt Middle East Technical University (METU) Atmospheric Bubbling Fluidized Bed Combustor (ABFBC) Test Rig and comparing its predictions with measurements. Freeboard is treated as a rectangular enclosure containing gray, absorbing, emitting and isotrop...
Effect of Heat Treatment on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Additively Manufactured 18Ni300 Maraging Steels
Aydın, İbrahim; Yağmur, Aydın; Tirkeş, Süha; Gür, Cemil Hakan (2021-09-01)
Recently, additive manufacturing of maraging steels has gained importance as an alternative to the traditional manufacturing techniques for aerospace components. In this study, various procedures were conducted to find optimum homogenization and aging treatment parameters for 18Ni300 parts that were additively manufactured via Selective Laser Melting (SLM).
EFFECT OF GLASS IONOMER LINERS ON BONDING STRENGTH OF LAMINATE VENEERS
KEDICI, PS; KALIPCILAR, B; BILIR, OG (Elsevier BV, 1992-07-01)
This study compared shear bond strengths of porcelain laminate veneers, fabricated on refractory dies, which were lengthened incisally by 0.5 mm. Specimens were divided into four separate groups. In group A, the teeth were reduced 0.5 mm and the bonding was to enamel. The teeth of the remaining groups were reduced 1.0 mm and the bonding was to dentin. For two of the groups glass ionomer liners were applied before etching. Bonding to enamel was best, with cohesive fractures in porcelain. In the other groups,...
Effect of grain boundary microcracking on the light transmittance of sintered transparent MgAl2O4
Dericioğlu, Arcan Fehmi (2003-05-01)
Optically transparent polycrystalline magnesium aluminate spinel (MgAl2O4) has been fabricated by hot-pressing followed by hot isostatic pressing (HIPing). The effect of microstructure on the light transmittance of the sintered MgAl2O4 is discussed. The sintered MgAl2O4 with a thickness of 2 mm has a maximum light transmittance of similar to60 and similar to70% in the UV-visible and near-IR wavelength regions, respectively, although it contains microcracking along its grain boundaries. Light transmittance l...
