Scale-up Studies for Photofermentative Hydrogen Production
Savaştürk, Dilan; Koku, Harun (2017-06-30)
Scale-up studies for photobiological production of hydrogen
Savaştürk, Dilan. (Middle East Technical University; 2019)
Photofermentative hydrogen production was performed with sugar sources (glucose, fructose or sucrose) utilized by Rhodobacter capsulatus hupbacteria in both smallscale (indoor) and large-scale (outdoor) reactors. In small-scale experiments, the effect of carbon-to-nitrogen ratio (20, 50 and 80) on photofermentative hydrogen production was investigated with 10, 20 and 30mM glucose and fructose feedings. The highest production rates were obtained from 10 mM glucose and 10 mM fructose as 0.45 mol.m-3 .h-1 and ...
Scale effects on the formation of vortices at intake structures
Gürbüzdal, Ferhat Aral; Göğüş, Mustafa; Department of Civil Engineering (2009)
In the present study, possible scale effects on the formation of air-entraining vortices at horizontal intakes are studied experimentally. Basic dimensionless parameters that govern the onset of vortices at a horizontal intake in a model and a prototype are stated by dimensional analysis. Series of experiments are conducted on four intake pipes of different diameters located in a large reservoir. The relationship of critical submergence ratio with other dimensionless parameters is considered for a given Fro...
Scale-up studies for stable, long-term indoor and outdoor production of hydrogen by immobilized Rhodobacter capsulatus
Sagir, EMRAH; ALIPOUR, Siamak; ELKAHLOUT, Kamal; Koku, Harun; Gündüz, Ufuk; Eroglu, Inci; YUCEL, Meral (2017-09-07)
Photofermentative hydrogen production by immobilized Rhodobacter capsulatus YO3 was carried out in a novel photobioreactor in sequential batch mode under indoor and outdoor conditions. Long-term H-2 production was realized in a 1.4 L photobioreactor for 64 days using Rhodobacter capsulatus YO3 immobilized with 4% (w/v) agar on 5 mM sucrose and 4 mM glutamate. The highest hydrogen yield (19 mol H-2/mol sucrose) and hydrogen productivity (0.73 mmol H-2 L-1 h(-1)) were achieved indoors on 5 mM sucrose. The eff...
Scale-up synthesis of zinc borate from the reaction of zinc oxide and boric acid in aqueous medium
Kilinc, Mert; Cakal, Gaye O.; Yesil, Sertan; Bayram, Göknur; EROĞLU, İNCİ; ÖZKAR, SAİM (2010-11-01)
Synthesis of zinc borate was conducted in a laboratory and a pilot scale batch reactor to see the influence of process variables on the reaction parameters and the final product, 2ZnO center dot 3B(2)O(3)center dot 3.5H(2)O. Effects of stirring speed, presence of baffles, amount of seed, particle size and purity of zinc oxide, and mole ratio of H3BO3:ZnO on the zinc borate formation reaction were examined at a constant temperature of 85 degrees C in a laboratory (4 L) and a pilot scale (85 L) reactor. Produ...
