Estimation of the uniaxial compressive strength of trona and interburden rocks using the point load test results and numerical modeling
Altınpınar, Mehmet; Öztürk, Hasan; Department of Mining Engineering (2016)
Point load (PL) test is used as an index for rock strength classification. It is generally used for estimation of uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) because of its economic advantages and simplicity in testing. If the PL index of a specimen is known, the UCS can be estimated according to some conversion factors. Several conversion factors have been proposed by different researchers and are dependent upon the rock type. In the literature, conversion factors on different sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic ...
Development of computer-controlled triaxial test setup and study on multistage triaxial test on sand
Alyousif, Mostafa; Toker, Nabi Kartal; Department of Civil Engineering (2015)
Triaxial test is one of the most important tests in geotechnical engineering. Yet, it is not commonly conducted due to its complexity and lack of automated devices in the Turkish market and the high price for those manufactured by European and American companies. This study focuses on developing a fully automated computer-controlled triaxial test for the first time in Turkey and the Middle East. The automation of the new setup is not limited to performing the standard tests, but also includes the advanced a...
A Combinatorial test data generation approach using fault data analysis and discretization of parameter input space
Bosnalı, Hakan; Betin Can, Aysu; Department of Information Systems (2018)
Combinatorial Testing is an efficient testing strategy. It is based on the idea that many faults are caused by interactions between a relatively small number of parameters. However, determining the right interaction strength to generate data for different software is an issue in terms of efficiency. In addition to that, it requires the inputs in a discrete form, while that is not always the case. We propose a new combinatorial test data generator tool that combines fault data analysis to determine the right...
Cluster based model diagnostic for logistic regression
Tanju, Özge; Kalaylıoğlu Akyıldız, Zeynep Işıl; Department of Statistics (2016)
Model selection methods are commonly used to identify the best approximation that explains the data. Existing methods are generally based on the information theory, such as Akaike Information Criterion (AIC), corrected Akaike Information Criterion (AICc), Consistent Akaike Information Criterion (CAIC), and Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC). These criteria do not depend on any modeling purposes. In this thesis, we propose a new method for logistic regression model selection where the modeling purpose is c...
Effect of estimation in goodness-of-fit tests
Eren, Emrah; Sürücü, Barış; Department of Statistics (2009)
In statistical analysis, distributional assumptions are needed to apply parametric procedures. Assumptions about underlying distribution should be true for accurate statistical inferences. Goodness-of-fit tests are used for checking the validity of the distributional assumptions. To apply some of the goodness-of-fit tests, the unknown population parameters are estimated. The null distributions of test statistics become complicated or depend on the unknown parameters if population parameters are replaced by ...
