Free convection flow of Newtonian fluid along a vertical plate embedded in a double layer porous medium
Beithou, N; Aybar, HS; Albayrak, Kahraman; Erenay, O (2001-05-01)
Porous medium has got a great interest especially in the recent years, for its wide application in geophysics, petroleum, and air conditioning. Many studies related to porous medium were performed, and most of them are dealing with constant porosity. For the act: that porosity is non-uniform, a great concern has been directed toward the variable porosity studies. In this study, the effects of a double layer porous medium on the free convection along vertical plate embedded in this porous medium were investi...
Free surface flow past a circular cylinder under forced rotary oscillations
Kocabıyık, Serpıl; Bozkaya, Canan; Liverman, E. (null; 2014-07-25)
Numerical results of a viscous incompressible two-fluid model with an oscillating cylinder are analyzed. Specifically, two-dimensional flow past a circular cylinder subject to forced rotational oscillations beneath a free surface is considered. Numerical method is based on the finite volume method for solving the two-dimensional continuity and unsteady NavierStokes equations. The numerical simulations are carried out at a Reynolds number of R = 200 and a Froude number F r = 0.2, and the cylinder submergence...
Free surface wave interaction with an oscillating cylinder
Bozkaya, Canan (2014-01-01)
The numerical solution of the special integral form of two-dimensional continuity and unsteady Navier Stokes equations is used to investigate vortex states of a horizontal cylinder undergoing forced oscillations in free surface water wave. This study aims to examine the consequence of degree of submergence of the cylinder beneath free surface at Froude number 0.4. Calculations are carried out for a single set of oscillation parameters at a Reynolds number of R = 200. Two new locked-on states of vortex forma...
Free vibrations of moderately thick truncated conical shells filled with quiescent fluid
Rahmanian, M.; Firouz-Abadi, R. D.; Ciğeroğlu, Ender (2016-05-01)
A novel reduced order formulation is proposed for the vibration analysis of conical shells containing stationary fluid. Hamiltonian approach is followed to obtain the governing equations of motion for the structure. Utilizing the Navier-Stokes equations and simplifying for irrotational, compressible and inviscid assumptions, the final fluid equation is obtained. A general solution based on the Galerkin method is proposed for the conical shell in vacuum. Several boundary conditions are investigated to show t...
Free vibration analysis of functionally graded rectangular nanoplates considering spatial variation of the nonlocal parameter
Ghassabı, A. Alipour; Dağ, Serkan; Ciğeroğlu, Ender (2017-01-01)
WE PRESENT A NEW NONLOCAL ELASTICITY-BASED ANALYSIS METHOD for free vibrations of functionally graded rectangular nanoplates. The introduced method allows taking into account spatial variation of the nonlocal parameter. Governing partial differential equations and associated boundary conditions are derived by employing the variational approach and applying Hamilton's principle. Displacement field is expressed in a unified way to be able to produce numerical results pertaining to three different plate theori...
