Effect of thermal neutron irradiation on the elastic constants of tourmaline
Özkan, H. (Informa UK Limited, 1987-2)
The effect of thermal neutron irradiation due to the B10(n, α)Li7 reaction on the elastic wave velocities and the elastic moduli of tourmaline crystals has been studied. Oriented tourmaline samples have been irradiated with thermal neutrons to 7.6 × 1018n/cm2 and the elastic wave velocities determined by ultrasonic measurements. The elastic wave velocities are not affected by thermal neutron irradiation below 8 × 10l7n/cm2, effects starting to appear at approximately 1 × l018n/cm2 with more important decrea...
Effect of inhomogeneous broadening on the fluorescence anisotropy of a square-symmetric molecule
Knox, RS; Gulen, D; Lotterhos, KE (2002-07-30)
Inhomogeneous broadening has the potential of introducing a new picosecond-range quasi-relaxation rate in an electronically twofold-degenerate system such as a molecule whose symmetry is square (D-4h). The physics of the process is the mutual cancellation of oscillatory contributions whose periods are determined by the random energy splittings. The effect occurs only for quite specific conditions of excitation and line broadening, and may be useful in the interpretation of existing experiments on magnesium ...
Effect of the Jacobian evalution on direct solutions of the Euler equations
Onur, Ömer; Eyi, Sinan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2003)
A direct method is developed for solving the 2-D planar/axisymmetric Euler equations. The Euler equations are discretized using a finite-volume method with upwind flux splitting schemes, and the resulting nonlinear system of equations are solved using Newton̕s Method. Both analytical and numerical methods are used for Jacobian calculations. Numerical method has the advantage of keeping the Jacobian consistent with the numerical flux vector without extremely complex or impractical analytical differentiations...
Effect of doping on the ground-state spin of stacked organometallic ferromagnets
Cheranovskii, VO; Ezerskaya, EV; Zhikol, OA; Kinal, A; Pamuk, HO (1999-07-05)
The effective Hamiltonians that describe the low-lying energy states of some stacked organometallic ferromagnets with dopants have been derived. It is shown that the lattice stack with N unit cells and p conduction electrons has the ground-state spin S-0 = (N + p)/2 at p < N and S-0 less than or equal to (3N - p)/2 at N less than or equal to p < 2N. This means that the ferromagnetic ground state of metallocene-based donor-acceptor stack is unstable to the donor doping and is stable to the acceptor doping. (...
Effect of Semi-Geodesic Winding on the Vibration Characteristics of Filament Wound Shells of Revolution
Kayran, Altan (ASME International, 2011-11-01)
The effect of semigeodesic winding on the free vibration characteristics of filament wound shells of revolution is studied. For this purpose multisegment numerical integration technique is extended to the solution of the free vibration problem of composite shells of revolution which are wound along the semigeodesic fiber paths counting on the preset friction used during the winding process. Sample results are obtained for truncated conical and spherical shells of revolution and the effect of preset friction...
