SELECTION OF CULTURED WHEAT CELLS FOR TOLERANCE TO HIGH-TEMPERATURE STRESS
WANG, WC; SHANG, XM; YUCEL, M; NGUYEN, HT (Wiley, 1993-03-01)
In vitro culture offers approaches to study cellular responses and to obtain cells tolerant to high temperature stress. The objectives of this study were to select wheat cells that tolerate high temperature stress, study cell line stability and cytogenetic characteristics, and compare protein synthesis in selected and control cell lines after exposure to heat stress. Three of 600 colonies plated were recovered after cells had been exposed to 48-degrees-C. Forty-five percent of the cells of the tolerant cell...

Recovery of Escherichia coli O157 : H7 and Salmonella in milk and cream of chicken soup from high hydrostatic pressure (HHP) and bacteriocin applications upon storage
Alpas, Hami (2002-06-01)
By the application of HHP; more than 8 log cycle reduction was achieved for E. coli O157:H7 933 and Salmonella FDA in milk and cream of chicken soup in 5 min. Storage of HHP treated milk samples showed absence of both bacteria for 24 h at 4degreesC and for 48 h at 37degreesC. The population of the strains in cream of chicken soup exceeded their initial value after 5 days of storage at 25degreesC. BP1 was combined with HHP and used for inhibition of surviving bacterial species in cream of chicken soup. There...
Removal of antibiotic resistance genes in various water resources recovery facilities
Kucukunsal, Serkan; İçgen, Bülent (Wiley, 2020-06-01)
Water resources recovery facilities (WWTPs) are hotspots for antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and pose a significant threat to environments. Therefore, ARG removal efficiencies of WWTPs are of great importance. In this study, conventional activated sludge (CAS), biological nutrient removal (BNR), sequencing batch reactor (SBR), membrane bioreactor (MBR), package MBR, and WWTP with coagulation-flocculation and UV disinfection units were investigated in terms of their removal efficiencies on overall bacteri...
