Design, construction and preliminary testin of an aeroservoelastic test apparatus to be used in Ankara Wind Tunnel
Ünal, Sadullah Utku; Balkan, Raif Tuna; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2005)
The flavin-containing monooxygenases (FMO; E.C.1.14.13.8) are microsomal NADPH and oxygen-dependent flavoprotein enzymes that catalyze the oxidation of a wide variety of xenobiotics, including drugs and environmental toxicants. Nucleophiles containing nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus and selenium heteroatoms are the substrates of FMO. Bovine liver microsomal FMO enzyme activity was characterized using methimazole as substrate, which is a highly specific substrate for FMO. From 12 different bovine liver samples,...
Removal of lead using anaerobic biomass
Tokcaer, Emre; Yetiş, Ülkü; Department of Environmental Engineering (2003)
Use of anaerobically digested sludge (ADS) in heavy metal removal, was researched. The raw and dewatered ADS samples collected from the effluent of anaerobic digesters and mechanical dewatering units of Ankara City Wastewater Treatment Plant were used. Sorption kinetic and equilibrium tests were conducted using raw ADS at initial pH of 2.0, 4.0 and without adjusting the initial pH. The highest Pb(II) removal capacity was observed as, 8.5 mmol (or 1760 mg) Pb(II) per g of biomass, when the initial pH was not...

Treatment and valorization of anaerobic digestate
Ülgüdür, Nilüfer; Bayramoğlu, Tuba Hande; Demirer, Göksel Niyazi; Department of Environmental Engineering (2019)
Anaerobic digestion is a widely applied process for the stabilization and treatment of high-strength wastes. The process has two outputs, biogas and digestate. Even though biogas produced during the treatment is a renewable energy source and has positive impacts on improving the economics of the plant, the treatment and disposal of the digestates present a challenge. The treatment methods offered so far are either costly or low yielded which drives off these uneconomic and non-viable treatment processes fro...
