Investigation of natural ventilation in a public place in winter season with the comparison of experimentation and CFD results
Bayer, Özgür (2016-12-01)
In educational buildings, efficient ventilation is vital for better indoor air quality and less contaminant level. High level of carbon dioxide concentration causes to drop in concentration and learning capacities of students in addition to headache, dizziness and rapid spreading of infections. In order to provide high indoor air quality; indoor temperature, carbon dioxide level, air humidity and air flow rate should be in the comfortable zone defined by standards. Natural ventilation is preferable solution...
Investigation of alkaline pretreatment parameters on amulti-product basis for the co-production of glucose and hemicellulose based films from corn cobs
Toraman, Hilal Ezgi; Bakır Bölükbaşı, Ufuk; Özkan, Necati; Department of Chemical Engineering (2012)
There is an increasing trend in the world for using renewable sources of fuels and chemicals due to the continuous depletion of fossil fuel reserves besides the environmental issues related with the exploitation of these resources. Lignocellulosic biomass is seen as the most promising candidate to be used instead of fossil sources because of its availability, relatively low price and less competition with food and feed crops. In this study, corn cobs, a lignocellulosic agricultural waste, were subjected to ...
Evaluation of alkaline pretreatment temperature on a multi-product basis for the co-production of glucose and hemicellulose based films from lignocellulosic biomass
BAHÇEGÜL, Erinc; TORAMAN, Hilal Ezgi; Özkan, Necati; Bakir, Ufuk (2012-01-01)
Cotton stalks were subjected to alkaline pretreatment for the co-production of glucose and hemicellulose based films with a multi-product approach. Three pretreatment temperatures (25, 60 and 90 degrees C) were evaluated for their effects both on the glucose yield and on the properties of hemicellulose based films. Compared to untreated cotton stalks, the glucose yields were enhanced 3.9, 4.1 and 4.2 times for pretreatments conducted at 25, 60 and 90 degrees C, respectively. The pretreatment temperature of ...

Investigation of fatigue behavior of a high strength lower bainitic structure in 60SIMN5 steel via a modified testing method
Uluğ, Emirhan; Ögel, Bilgehan; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2019)
A steel with high silicon content can yield carbide-free bainite after an isothermal bainitic transformation. In this thesis study, fatigue behavior of a high strength carbide-free lower bainitic structure, which was produced from 60SiMn5 steel, was investigated. The fatigue tests of the same steel with tempered martensitic microstructure were also carried out for comparison purposes. Before fatigue testing, the mechanical properties of the specimens were also determined, which include hardness, yield stren...
