Sedimentological and geochemical approaches for determination of the palaeoceanographic and palaeoclimatic conditions of Lower Cretaceous marine deposits in the eastern part of Sakarya Zone, NE Turkey
Özyurt, Merve ; Kırmacı, Mehmet Ziya ; Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; KANDEMİR, RAİF; TASLI, Kemal (2022-05-01)
Upper Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous carbonate successions are widely exposed throughout the Sakarya Zone, Northern Turkey. The carbonates are considered as invaluable archives of palaeoceanographic and palaeoclimatic conditions of Tethys Ocean. We, here, present new micropaleontological, microfacies, and stable isotope data (delta O-18 and delta C-13) of Lower Cretaceous carbonate succession of the eastern part of Sakarya Zone, NE Turkey. The studied Lower Cretaceous carbonates are characterized by, from bottom...
Sedimentological and Geochemical Records of Lower Cretaceous Carbonate Successions Around Trabzon (NE Turkey): Implications for Paleoenvironmental Evolution and Paleoclimatological Conditions of Tethys
ÖZYURT, MERVE; KIRMACI, MEHMET ZİYA; Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; KANDEMİR, RAİF (2019-01-18)
Upper Jurassic–lower Cretaceous carbonates (Berdiga Fm.) are widely exposed in the NE Turkey. An integrated study of sedimentological and geochemical analysis was carried out on the lower Cretaceous carbonates of Berdiga Fm. in Trabzon area in order to reveal the paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatological conditions of northern Tethyan Ocean. Three microfacies types were identified corresponding to inner to slope environments. Inner platform environment developed during the Hauterivian–Aptian interval. End ...
Sedimentological and stratigraphical analysis of the Cenomanian-Santonian rudist-bearing carbonate platform, northern Arabian Plate, the Sabunsuyu section, Kilis area (SE Turkey)
Mülayim, Oğuz; Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; Özer, Sacit; Sarı, Bilal; Taslı, Kemal; Hoşgör, İzzet (2019-09-10)
Our recent studies show that the Cenomanian-Santonian carbonate sediments rich in rudists are widespread throughout southeastern Turkey. The middle-late Cenomanian Derdere Formation and Coniacian-Santonian Karababa Formation, analyzed in the Sabunsuyu section (Kilis province), is almost completely composed of limestones, with subordinate limestones with chert bands, dolomite and dolomitic limestones. On a field scale, we can distinguish rudist-rich beds rhythmically alternating with bioclastic levels compos...
SEDIMENTOLOGICAL AND CYCLOSTRATIGRAPHIC ANALYSIS OF THE ÇAKRAZBOZ FORMATION (TRIASSIC) IN AMASRA-KASTAMONU REGION
Şen, Gül; Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; Department of Geological Engineering (2021-6-21)
The studied Triassic-aged successions indicate a large-scale tripartite sequence of depositional environments in the Amasra-Kastamonu region, the NW Anatolia. Sedimentological, petrographic, magnetic susceptibility, elemental geochemistry, cyclostratigraphic, and palynological analyses are carried out in order to determine the types of depositional environment where six stratigraphic sections were measured, to define the cyclic characteristics of the successions, to find out exact age of the Çakrazboz forma...
Sedimentology, cyclostratigraphy, sequence stratigraphy and geochemistry of the middle eocene lacustrine-marine oil-shales transition, Mudurnu Göynük basin, NW Anatolia, Turkey
Afridi, Bakht Zamir; Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; Department of Geological Engineering (2019)
Continuous studied successions of the Middle Eocene, Mudurnu-Göynük basin, in the NW Anatolia indicate a transition from marine-influence lacustrine to marine environment due to the relative rise in sea-level, which was separated by barrier deposits. Different lithofacies are identified in the studied sections, including limestone, marl, oil-shale, calcareous sandstone, conglomeratic and bio-calcirudite. Number of fossil assemblages are recorded including ostracods, charophyte gyrogonites, gastropods, bival...
