Electrochemical synthesis of crowned conducting polymers : nature of radical cations in polymerization and mechanism of conductivity
Cihaner, Atilla; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar; Department of Chemistry (2004)
Poly(dibenzo-18-crown-6) (Poly(DB18C6)) was synthesized by electrochemical oxidation of dibenzo-18-crown-6 (DB18C6) using a mixture of acetonitrile and dichloromethane as solvent and tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate (TBABF4) or tetrabutylammonium hexafluorophosphate (TBAPF6) as supporting electrolyte. The anodic polymerization of DB18C6 was investigated using in-situ ESR and in-situ UV-VIS spectroscopic techniques. Spectroelectrochemical (SPEL) properties and thermal analysis of the resulting polymers h...
ELECTROINITIATED POLYMERIZATION OF ACROLEIN BY DIRECT AND INDIRECT ELECTRON-TRANSFER VIA CONTROLLED POTENTIAL ELECTROLYSIS
Toppare, Levent Kamil; Akbulut, Ural (Informa UK Limited, 1990-01-01)
Electroinitiated polymerization of acrolein has been achieved by controlled potential electrolysis at the reduction peak potential of the monomer for direct electron transfer. Kinetics and type of mechanism of the polymerization have been investigated. the structure of the polymer has also been examined by IR spectroscopy. in a separate experiment, a small amount of CCI4 was added to a polymerization system. Since the reduction peak potential of CCI4 appears at a more anodic region than that of acrolein on ...
Electrochemical properties of a new star-shaped pyrrole monomer and its electrochromic applications
Ak, Metin; Ak, Mine Sulak; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Wiley, 2006-08-02)
A new monomer, 2,4,6-tris(4-(1H-pyrroI-1-yl) phenoxy)-1,3,5-triazine (Tria-Py) was synthesized via the reaction,of 4-(1H-pyrrol-1-yl)phenol with 2,4,6-trichloro-1,3, 5-triazine. It was electrochemically polymerized in a dichloromethane/acetonitrile solvent mixture. The polymer P(Tria-Py) was characterized via CV, FTIR, SEM and uv-vis spectroscopy. Spectroelectrochemical analysis revealed electronic transitions at 346, 508 and 665, nm, revealing pi to pi* transitions, and polaron and bipolaton band formation...
Electrochemical and optical properties of novel terthienyl based azobenzene, coumarine and fluorescein containing polymers: Multicolored electrochromic polymers
Yigit, Deniz; Udum, Yasemin Arslan; GÜLLÜ, Mustafa; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Elsevier BV, 2014-01-01)
Three electroactive terthienyl based monomers, namely 1-phenyl-2-[4-(2,2':5',2 ''-terthien-3'-ylmethoxy)phenyl]diazene (TTAz), 4-(2,2':5',2 ''-terthien-3'-ylmethoxy)-2H-chromen-2-one (TTCo) and methyl 2-[3-oxo-6-(2,2':5',2 ''-terthien-3'-ylmethoxy)-3H-xanthen-9-yl] benzoate (TTFlo), were synthesized with good yields and their conducting polymers were electrochemically prepared on ITO electrode surfaces. The effect of chromophore type on electrochemical and optical properties of the polymers was investigated...
