This study was performed to investigate the engineering geological and geotechnical characteristics of the rock material and rock mass, and to provide appropriate support recommendation and stabilization techniques along the two autoroad tunnel projects (Ilıksu 1 and Ilıksu 2) located along the Antalya-Alanya autoroad. The tunnel grounds were classified according to the Q-system, RMR and NATM, and support systems and stabilization techniques were determined. The deformation moduli and shear strength parameters were obtained by using the Geological Strength Index. In order to determine the stability of the portal and cut slope sections, kinematic and limit equilibrium analyses were performed for the discontinuous rock slopes. Static stability analyses of irregularly jointed, highly foliated and deformable soil-like lithologies were analyzed by slope stability softwares, and recommendations were made regarding the required support systems. The interactions of the support systems with the rock mass were analyzed through finite element analysis.

Determination of the dynamic characteristics and local site conditions of the plio-quarternary sediments situated towards the north of Ankara through surface wave testing methods
Eker, Arif Mert; Akgün, Haluk; Department of Geological Engineering (2009)
The purpose of this study is to assess the engineering geological and geotechnical characteristics and to perform seismic hazard studies of the Upper Pliocene to Quaternary (Plio-Quaternary) deposits located towards the north of Ankara through surface wave testing methods. Based on a general engineering geological and seismic site characterization studies, site classification systems are assigned in seismic hazard assessments. The objective of the research is to determine the regional and local seismic soil...
Ilısu Dam and HEPP, investigation of alternative solutions
Yalçın, Emrah; Tiğrek, Şahnaz; Department of Civil Engineering (2010)
This study is an assessment of a hydraulic solution not only rescues Hasankeyf with countless ancient monuments from inundation but also supplies the foreseen energy production of the Ilisu Dam and HEPP Project. An alternative composed of five dams on the Tigris River and its branches was developed as a result of the conducted hydro-meteorological, water potential, flood analysis and optimization studies considering the topographical and geological characteristics of the proposed dam locations. While there ...
Development of design equations to estimate live load effects in hammer-head bridge piers
Demir, Çağrı.; Dicleli, Murat; Department of Engineering Sciences (2019)
In this study, design equations are proposed to calculate the internal forces in hammer-head bridge pier components under the effect of live loads. For this purpose, first a four span benchmark bridge representative of the bridges in the US is selected. Finite element model (FEM) of a benchmark bridge is built, and sensitivity analyses are performed on the bridge model to identify the bridge parameters affecting the magnitude and distribution of the girder live load support reactions and hence the internal ...
Improving flow structure and natural convection within fin spacings of plate fin heat sinks
Özet, Mehmet Erdem; Tarı, İlker; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2015)
The main objectives of this thesis are to numerically investigate the previously observed recirculation zones and longitudinal vortices that occur in low fin height plate finned horizontal heat sinks and to improve the flow structures and heat transfer in these zones using various approaches with the help of simulations performed using commercially available CFD software. The approaches used for improvements are replacing the outer most fins with higher ones, introducing gaps on the length of the fins in va...
Engelli tanklarda şaft her zaman...
