Uses of Killing and Killing-Yano Tensors
Lindström, Ulf; Sarıoğlu, Bahtiyar Özgür (2022-11-23)
In this contribution we have collected some facts about Killing and Killing-Yano tensors that we feel are of general interest for researchers working on problems that rely on differential geometry. We also include some of our recent studies pertaining to currents, charges and (super)invariants for particles and tensionless strings.
Varieties of D-linking: A view from Italian and Turkish
Torregrossa, Jacopo; Özge, Umut (2016-12-10)
Enç (1991) provides a formalization of Pesetsky’s (1987) notion of D-linking by proposing that each DP is double-indexed. The first index (xi) refers to the DP referent, while the second (xj) stands for the superset of which xi is a subset (if xi is plural) or an element (if xi is singular), as indicated in (1): (1) Every [NP α]<i, j> is interpreted as α(xi) where, xi ⊆ xj if NP<i, j> is plural; xi ∈ xj if NP<i, j> is singular For D-linked indefinites, on which we concentrate here, the value of xi is indef...
Definitions of Turkish in-group boundaries: national participation and essentialism as predictors of inter-group attitudes in Turkey
TAŞDEMİR, NAGİHAN; Öner Özkan, Bengi (2016-01-01)
The present research investigates how definitions of national in-group boundaries predict inter-group attitudes in Turkey. In Study 1, we explore definitions of Turkish in-group boundaries as well as perceptions of the Turkish in-group's relations with other groups among 64 university students. In Study 2, conducted among 324 university students, exploratory factor analyses reveal two dimensions of Turkish in-group boundaries: national participation (a more civic definition) and national essentialism (a mor...
Types of Global Argumentation Structures in Conjecture-Generation Activities Regarding Geometry
DEMİRAY, ESRA; Işıksal Bostan, Mine; SAYGI, ELİF (2021-03-01)
Toulmin's argumentation model is an effective tool in the description of one step of an argument. However, there is a need to consider more than this model to portray a comprehensive argumentation process. The purpose of the study is to investigate types of global argumentation structures that emerged while prospective middle school mathematics teachers were working on conjecture-generation activities related to geometry. The participants were junior prospective middle school mathematics teachers at a state...
Technologies of the self understanding veiling as both a personal and a social process of self realization
Çırakman Deveci, Aslı (2015-08-22)
This paper engages with Michel Foucault’s concept of technologies of the self in an attempt to understand the practice of veiling in Turkey throughout the 2000s. Foucault defines technologies of the self as a form of truth regime or rather telling the truth about ourselves. The question is what do veiled women think they are doing when they are veiling? In other words how do women reflect on or interpret their own veiling. The literature on veiling treats the act of veiling either as an act of submission of...
