Microstructural, biological and mechanical investigations of hydroxyapatite-β-tricalcium phosphate composites doped with strontium and fluoride
Pourreza, Elmira; Evis, Zafer; Department of Engineering Sciences (2016)
The aim of this study was to investigate the microstructure, mechanical and biological properties of biphasic hydroxyapatite--Tricalcium phosphate (HT) and HT substituted with constant fluoride (F−) and varying strontium (Sr2+) amounts. All the samples were synthesized via precipitation method and sintered at 1100°C for 1 h. It was observed that the relative density of the sintered strontium and fluoride doped HT slightly increased. For microstructural analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron m...

Microdroplet identification and size measurement in sprays with lasing images
Serpenguzel, A; Küçükşenel, Serkan; Chang, RK (2002-10-07)
Two-dimensional fluorescence and lasing images of a Rhodamine-6G doped water spray are observed with color photography. The lasing microdroplets are identified by their two reciprocal lasing spots. The microdroplet sizes are measured using the digitized images. The measured mean microdroplet diameter is 69.7 mum with a standard deviation of 23.1 mum. The measured microdroplet size distribution compares favorably with the normal Gaussian size distribution. (C) 2002 Optical Society of America.
Microstructural characterization and tensile properties of hot pressed Al-SiC composites prepared from pure Al and Cu powders
Ögel, Bilgehan; Gürbüz, Rıza (2001-03-31)
A conventional hot pressing method was used to produce Al-Cu-SiC particulate metal matrix composites. The matrix alloy was prepared from elemental powders of Al and 5 wt.% Cu. The composite comprises 13.3 or 27.2 vol.% SiCp with an average size of 10 mum. The powder mixtures were hot pressed uniaxially under nitrogen atmosphere. It is shown that Cu aids in the Formation of a liquid phase. Practically pore free structures are obtained after pressing at 600 degreesC, Elastic modulus, tensile strength and yiel...
