A New Multi-ring SRR Type Metamaterial Design with Multiple Magnetic Resonances
Turkmen, O.; Ekmekci, E.; Sayan, Gönül (2011-03-23)
In this study, we propose a new SRR unit cell design for multi-band metamaterial applications. The suggested unit cell structure consists of N number of concentric split rings to obtain magnetic resonances at N distinct frequencies. The value of each distinct resonance frequency can be adjusted by changing design parameters such as metal widths and gap distances for each ring as well as ring-to-ring separations. The suggested multi-band structure is simulated using CST Microwave Studio. Effective medium par...
A New active control application for reduction of environmental noise in open spaces
Ülgen, Serkan; Sorguç, Arzu; Department of Building Science in Architecture (2016)
Today, rapid development of urban and industrial areas, growing motorway, airway and railway networks together with other sources, bring out noise as one of the major environmental problems. Studies show that one of the most annoying noise sources is the traffic noise in the cities. Sound barriers are conventional solutions applied to control traffic noise. However, the construction cost of these barriers, their aesthetical qualities and how they contribute to urban qualities are questionable. Today’s moder...
A New Temperature-Tolerant RF MEMS Switch Structure Design and Fabrication for Ka-Band Applications
Demirel, Kaan; Yazgan, Erdem; Demir, Şimşek; Akın, Tayfun (2016-02-01)
In this paper, the design and fabrication of a new radio frequency (RF) microelectromechanical system (MEMS) switch structure is presented. This RF MEMS switch is developed to get the minimum permanent deformation on the microbridge after 200 degrees C thermal treatment. The residual stress-based buckling on the MEMS bridge is simulated for 5-40-MPa/mu m stress gradient (Delta sigma) with 5-MPa/mu m steps. The temperature-dependent extension and deformation on the MEMS bridge are modeled up to 270 degrees C...
A new online state-of-charge estimation and monitoring system for sealed lead-acid batteries in telecommunication power supplies
Kutluay, K; Cadirci, Y; Ozkazanc, YS; Cadirci, I (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2005-10-01)
This paper presents a new, online, battery state-of-charge estimation and monitoring system for both the discharge and charge periods of sealed lead-acid batteries, commonly used in telecommunication power systems as backup power supplies. The proposed monitoring system is based on discharge time versus discharge rate data given in manufacturers' data sheets, and coulometric measurements, without the need for any battery voltage measurement under open-circuit conditions. The corresponding battery management...
A new ethanol biosensor based on polyfluorene-g-poly(ethylene glycol) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes
Bekmezci, Siddika Aybuke; SÖYLEMEZ, SANİYE; Yilmaz, Gorkem; Udum, Yasemin A.; Yağcı, Yusuf; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Elsevier BV, 2020-01-05)
Functionalization of the conjugated polymers has gained considerable interest in the biomedical engineering and biosensing applications as distinct properties can be imparted to the corresponding pristine analogues. In the present work, we report a novel sensing platform for the quantification of ethanol through a macromolecular design involving polyfluorene-g-poly(ethylene glycol) (PF-g-PEG) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). First, poly(ethylene glycol) with fluorene functionality (PEG-FL) was syn...
