POWER GENERATION FROM LOW TEMPERATURE LIQUID DOMINATED GEOTHERMAL SYSTEMS UTILIZING A BINARY POWER PLANT
Taji, Oubaida; Doruk, Alp; Parlaktuna, Mahmut; Sustainable Environment and Energy Systems (2022-8)
Sustainable and renewable energy became of great importance in a world threatened by its climate change and its ever-increasing population. Among the sustainable, renewable, and environmentally friendly energy sources, namely solar, wind, wave and tide, geothermal energy distinguishes itself as it provides supply and storage security. In this study, an explicit, analytical spreadsheet model has been developed, estimating the power generated from a binary power plant utilizing low temperature liquid-dominate...
Power Quality Solutions for Light Rail Public Transportation Systems Fed by Medium-Voltage Underground Cables

In this paper, the combination of a thyristor-switched shunt reactor and a current source converter-based active power filter has been proposed for mitigation of power quality (PQ) problems of Light Rail public Transportation Systems (LRTSs) fed by long medium-voltage underground cables. A case study has been carried out on a typical LRTS to assess the performance of the proposed solution for both capacitive reactive power compensation of underground cables and harmonic filtering of 12-pulse catenary rectif...
Electricity generation by an alkaline fuel cell
Ergul, MT; Turker, L; Eroğlu, İnci (1996-06-28)
A fuel cell test module was designed and constructed to get a practical experience about an alkaline fuel cell. The aim was to improve its performance by changing some of its parameters and to integrate with a hydrogen photobioreactor in future. The fuel cell was a single cell, hydrogen-oxygen, aqueous electrolyte type. The performance characteristics of the cell have been investigated. The electrodes were multilayer teflon bonded gas diffusion type and were prepared by the rolling method. Active carbon or ...
Power conversion efficiency enhancement of organic solar cells by addition of gold nanoparticles
Kozanoğlu, Duygu; Turan, Raşit; Akın, Tayfun; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2012)
In the first part of the study, power conversion efficiency enhancement of organic solar cells by addition of gold nanorods and gold nanostars into PEDOT: PSS (Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) poly(styrenesulfonate)) layer was investigated. Efficiency of each sample set has been characterized by measuring current density-voltage characteristics. The best efficiencies obtained during this study are 2.88 % and 2.54 % by addition of gold nanostars and nanorods, respectively. The increase in PCEs is notable whe...
Power quality solutions for 12-pulse smelter converters in ETI Aluminium Works
Ermiş, Muammer; Gultekin, B; Terciyanli, A; Nalcaci, E; Cadirci, I; Ozay, N; Ermis, C; Gokmen, M; Kiziltan, H (2003-10-16)
This paper describes the solution of power quality problems arising from 12-pulse smelter converters in ETI Aluminium Works. The design work is based on practical data collected in the field as well as on the results of detailed simulation studies obtained by EMTDC/PSCAD, SPICE and MATLAB. Main design objective is to meet both present regulations and harmonic standards by using robust, reliable and cost effective systems with a long life expectancy. The shunt-connected passive reactive power compensation sy...
