Hydrolysis of freshly prepared wheat starch fractions and commercial wheat starch using α-amylase
Sakintuna, Billur; Budak, Okan; Dik, Tunay; Yöndem Makascıoğlu, Füsun; Kincal, N. Suzan (Informa UK Limited, 2003-5)
The enzymic hydrolysis of commercial wheat starch and freshly prepared wheat starch fractions was studied in batch and flow systems. Fresh starch was prepared by wet separation of wheat flour into starch milk and gluten, followed by processing the starch milk using a serially connected hydrocyclone system to produce underflow and overflow streams. The underflow stream consisted mainly of the larger (> 30 w m) granules, while the overflow stream contained only the smaller (< 10 w m) granules. In batch system...
Hydrolysis of Hazelnut Shells as a Carbon Source for Bioprocessing Applications and Fermentation
Uzuner, Sibel; Çekmecelioğlu, Deniz (Walter de Gruyter GmbH, 2014-12-01)
Hazelnut shells are generated in large amounts from hazelnut processing. Currently, it is used as fuel. However, reuse in bioprocessing can release remarkable content of sugars, which can be used for production of additives such as enzymes widely used in the food industry. Thus, the present study was undertaken to determine the effect of single and combined chemical and enzymatic hydrolysis on the production of fermentable sugars from hazelnut shells. Batch hydrolysis was carried out under various condition...
Hydrophobicity of chalcopyrite with dithiophosphate and dithiophosphinate in electrochemically controlled condition
Guler, T; Hicyilmaz, C (Elsevier BV, 2004-03-18)
The degree of hydrophobicity of chalcopyrite was determined by contact angle measurements on polished chalcopyrite surface in electrochemically controlled conditions. Results have shown that the increase in solution pH adversely affect hydrophobicity due to heavy surface oxidation. Maximum contact angles were measured at moderately oxidizing potentials, which proposed that slight oxidation is necessary for a hydrophobic chalcopyrite surface. Sodium diisobutyl dithiophosphinate (DTPI) displayed better result...
Enzymatic hydrolysis by transition-metal-dependent nucleophilic aromatic substitution

Nitroaromatic compounds are typically toxic and resistant to degradation. Bradyrhizobium species strain JS329 metabolizes 5-nitroanthranilic acid (5NAA), which is a molecule secreted by Streptomyces scabies, the plant pathogen responsible for potato scab. The first biodegradation enzyme is 5NAA-aminohydrolase (5NAA-A), a metalloprotease family member that converts 5NAA to 5-nitrosalicylic acid. We characterized 5NAA-A biochemically and obtained snapshots of its mechanism. 5NAA-A, an octamer that can use sev...
