Effect of Magnesium and Osteoblast Cell Presence on Hydroxyapatite Formation on (Ti,Mg)N Thin Film Coatings
Onder, Sakip; Calikoglu-Koyuncu, Ayse Ceren; Kose, Gamze Torun; Kazmanli, Kursat; Kök, Fatma Neşe; Urgen, Mustafa (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2017-07-01)
TiN and (Ti,Mg)N thin film coatings were deposited on Ti substrates by an arc-physical vapor deposition technique. The effect of cell presence on hydroxyapatite (HA) formation was investigated using surfaces with four different Mg contents (0, 8.1, 11.31, and 28.49 at.%). Accelerated corrosion above 10 at.% Mg had a negative effect on the performance in terms of both cell proliferation and mineralization. In the absence of cells, Mg-free TiN coatings and low-Mg (8.1 at.%)-doped (Ti,Mg)N surfaces led to an e...
Effect of self-ion irradiation on the microstructural changes of alloy EK-181 in annealed and severely deformed conditions
Aydoğan Güngör, Eda; Gigax, J. G.; Chen, D.; Wang, X.; Dzhumaev, P. S.; Emelyanova, O. V.; Ganchenkova, M. G.; Kalin, B. A.; Leontiva-Smirnova, M.; Valiev, R. Z.; Enikeev, N. A.; Abramova, M. M.; Wu, Y.; Lo, W. V.; Yang, Y.; Short, M.; Maloy, S. A.; Garner, F. A.; Shao, L. (Elsevier BV, 2017-04-01)
EK-181 is a low-activation ferriticimartensitic steel that is an attractive candidate for in-core component materials for both fast reactors and fusion reactors. To assess the effect of microstructural engineering on radiation response, two variants of EK-181 were studied: one in an annealed condition and the other subject to severe plastic deformation. These specimens were irradiated with 3.5 MeV Fe self-ions up to 400 peak displacements per atom (dpa) at temperatures ranging from 400 degrees C to 500 degr...
Effect of osmotic pretreatment and microwave frying on acrylamide formation in potato strips
Şahin, Serpil; Şümnü, Servet Gülüm; Öztop, Halil Mecit (Wiley, 2007-12-01)
BACKGROUND: The presence of acrylamide, a probable carcinogen, is currently a major concern relating to the consumption of fried products. Therefore, recent frying studies have focused on ways of reducing the acrylamide content. The main objective of the present study was to determine the effects of microwave frying and osmotic treatment prior to frying on acrylamide formation in potato strips.
Effect of Midsynthesis Addition of Silica to the Synthesis Medium on the Properties of MFI-Type Zeolite Membranes
Soydas, Belma; Kalıpçılar, Halil; Culfaz, Ali (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2010-06-02)
Thin zeolite membranes of MFI type were prepared on alpha-Al2O3 supports by midsynthesis addition of silica in a recirculating flow system at 95 degrees C The synthesis was started with the batch composition of 80SiO(2): 30TPAOH:1500H(2)O which was changed to 80SiO(2)center dot 9TPAOH:1500H(2)O by addition of silica Mkt 24, 48, or 72 h Compared to synthesis at constant composition. it is possible to affect the rates of nucleation and crystal growth to obtain membranes with better quality by changing the ove...
