Studies on photochemical vapor generation of selenium
Çetmeli , Melis; Ertaş, Gülay; Department of Chemistry (2019)
Selenium is a significant trace element for human health. Selenium can be essential or toxic for human body depending on its concentration. Within the scope of this thesis, photochemical vapor generation tungsten coil atomization technique has been studied for the determination of selenium. Volatile selenium compounds were generated by exposure of UV light of the solution containing selenium and acetic acid. To increase sensitivity of photochemical vapor generation system, the technique was combined with tu...
Investigations on the electrochemical surface treatment of carbon fibers
Bayramli, E; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Erinc, NK (2001-01-01)
Desized polyacrylonitrile (PAN) based carbon fibers (CF) were chemically and electrochemically oxidized and reduced. CF surfaces were activated via cyclic voltammetry studies with anodic and cathodic scans. The changes in CF surfaces were studied by contact angle measurements. Lifshitz-van der Waals and acid-base components of single fibers were determined. In general, oxidation resulted in the formation of an acidic surface energy component and reduction gave rise to no change in the number of basic functi...
Investigations on the permeability of acrylic powder structures
Ağırtopçu, Yasin; Bayramlı, Erdal; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2003)
There are many examples where creation and usage of porous substrates play important roles in various fields of application in material science and technology. In the manufacture of ceramic products, as an alternative to the plaster molds, porous resin molds are used İn order to resolve the drawbacks that result from plaster mold cementation. A porous substrate can be produced by various ways. In this study, porous polymeric matrices of pofy(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and poh/(methyl methacrylate-co-2-hydr...
Studies on interaction of electromagnetic waves with barium hexaferrite ceramics
Gürkan, Nurdan; Timuçin, Muharrem; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2008)
M-type barium hexaferrite powders doped with titanium and/or cobalt have been synthesized according to the stochiometric formulations BaFe(12 (4/3)x)TixO19, BaFe12-xCoxO19 , BaFe12-2xTixCoxO19 (x varying from 0 to 1.5 with an increment of 0.5) by the mixed oxide approach. The powders were used to manufacture small ceramic tiles by sintering each composition at 1250 °C with soaking times ranging from 1 to 16 hours. XRD work revealed formation of the magnetoplumbite crystal structure in all ceramics. The var...
