Independent estimation of input and measurement delays for a hybrid vertical spring-mass-damper via harmonic transfer functions
Uyanık, Ismail; Ankaralı, Mustafa Mert; Cowan, Noah J.; Saranlı, Uluç; Morgül, Ömer; Özbay, Hitay (2015-06-30)
System identification of rhythmic locomotor systems is challenging due to the time-varying nature of their dynamics. Even though important aspects of these systems can be captured via explicit mechanics-based models, it is unclear how accurate such models can be while still being analytically tractable. An alternative approach for rhythmic locomotor systems is the use of data-driven system identification in the frequency domain via harmonic transfer functions (HTFs). To this end, the input-output dynamics o...
Consistent matrices for steel framed structures with semi-rigid connections accounting for shear deformation and rotary inertia effects
ÖZEL, HALİL FIRAT; Sarıtaş, Afşin; Tasbahji, Tayseer (2017-04-15)
Estimation of vibration characteristics and thus the seismic loads acted on steel framed structures are influenced by the presence of semi-rigid connections and accurate modeling of shear deformations and rotary inertia effects. This paper presents a finite element model that takes into account all these effects in order to calculate consistent stiffness and mass matrices. The formulation of the element utilizes three fields Hu-Washizu-Barr principle, where the need for displacement shape function approxima...
EMPIRICAL TIGHT-BINDING TOTAL ELECTRONIC-ENERGY CALCULATION FOR SINH2M (N = 1 TO 6, M = 1 TO 3) CLUSTERS
Katırcıoğlu, Şenay (Wiley, 1993-06-01)
The stable structures of SinH2m (n = 1 to 6, m = 1 to 3) clusters are investigated by the total electronic energy calculation using an empirical tight-binding (ETB) method. It seems that bridged H-bond models are also possible for small Si(n)H(m) clusters.
Variable-rate, variable-pressure production from a fractured gas well with large viscosity and compressibility variation: applicability of superposition time
Gül Ertunç, Kıymet Gizem; Kök, Mustafa Verşan; Özkan, Erdal; Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering (2017)
In this study, it was estimated that 71.8 standard tcm of methane can be available in the Black Sea gas hydrates. However, only 13.6 tcm of this amount was calculated as energy sources. With HydrateResSim simulator, gas production potentials from a hypothetical Class 1 hydrate in the Black Sea conditions by depressurization and depressurization with wellbore heating were simulated. Wellbore heating might be necessary to avoid hydrate reformation along the wellbore during production. For comparison with the ...
Cyclic volumetric and shear strain responses of fine-grained soils
Bilge, Habib Tolga; Çetin, Kemal Önder; Department of Civil Engineering (2010)
Although silt and clay mixtures were mostly considered to be resistant to cyclic loading due to cohesional components of their shear strength, ground failure case histories compiled from fine grained soil profiles after recent earthquakes (e.g. 1994 Northridge, 1999 Adapazarı, 1999 Chi-Chi) revealed that the responses of low plasticity silt and clay mixtures are also critical under cyclic loading. Consequently, understanding the cyclic response of these soils has become a recent challenge in geotechnical ea...
