Modeling human thinking about similarities by neuromatrices in the perspective of fuzzy logic
Grobelny, Jerzy; Michalski, Rafal; Weber, Gerhard Wilhelm (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2020-09-01)
In this work, we propose a new method for modeling human reasoning about objects' similarities. We assume that similarity depends on perceived intensities of objects' attributes expressed by natural language expressions such as low, medium, and high. We show how to find the underlying structure of the matrix with intensities of objects' similarities in the factor-analysis-like manner. The demonstrated approach is based on fuzzy logic and set theory principles, and it uses only maximum and minimum operators....
Modeling the effect of key cathode design parameters on the electrochemical performance of a lithium-sulfur battery
Erisen, Nisa; Emerce, Nur Ber; Erensoy, Sevgi Can; Eroglu, Damla (2018-06-25)
A 1D model is developed for the Li-S cell to predict the effect of critical cathode design parameterscarbon-to-sulfur (C/S) and electrolyte-to-sulfur (E/S) ratios in the cathodeon the electrochemical performance. Cell voltage at 60% depth of discharge corresponding to the lower voltage plateau is used as a metric for calculating the cell performance. The cathode kinetics in the lower voltage plateau is defined with a single electrochemical reaction; thus, the model has a single apparent kinetic model parame...

Modeling Random Binomial Rabbit Hops
Kazak, Sibel (2010-01-01)
Six fourth-grade students engaged in data modeling to make sense of the pattern of variability in binomial distributions. The students modeled five random rabbit-hops by tossing a fair coin to determine the most likely locations of the rabbits along a number line ranging from -5 to +5. To make sense of their empirical distributions, the students generated inscriptions of "paths" showing the possible ways to get to each final location and used these both to prove why certain locations were impossible and why...
