The Beywhir-Hoyran Nappes, including Mesozoic carbonate platform rocks, deepsea sediments, and ophiolite-related units, crop out extensively on the western limb of the Isparta Angle in the Central Taurides, Turkey. The ophiolite-related rocks are represented by variably serpentinized harzburgitic mantle tectonites, tectonically underlain by a subophiolitic metamorphic sole and melange. The harzburgitic mantle tectonites and metamorphic sole are intruded by undeformed isolated dikes. Protoliths of the metamo...
Seasonal chemical and mineralogical variability of atmospheric particles in the coastal region of the Northeast Mediterranean
Kubilay, NN; Saydam, AC; Yemenicioglu, S; Kelling, G; Kapur, S; Karaman, C; Akca, E (1997-02-01)
A time-serial analysis of atmospheric particles collected since 1990 at a coastal site bordering the northeastern Mediterranean Sea shows that the collected samples display seasonal patterns in both concentration and color. The 1990-91 and 1992 collections yield an annualised average of around 0.5 g/day dust loading reducing to around 0.3 g/day when the sea-salt contribution is excluded. The highest concentrations of atmospheric particles of continental origin for both natural (e.g. Fe, Mn) and anthropogeni...

SEISMIC STRATIGRAPHY AND LATE QUATERNARY SEDIMENTS IN INNER AND MID-SHELF AREAS OF EASTERN MERSIN BAY, NORTHEASTERN MEDITERRANEAN-SEA
ERGIN, M; OKYAR, M; TIMUR, K (Elsevier BV, 1992-02-29)
High-resolution shallow-seismic reflection (Uniboom) profiles obtained in inner and mid-shelf areas of eastern Mersin Bay (Turkey, northeastern Mediterranean) show that the sedimentary column comprises two major and distinct lithological sequences (C and B) separated by a reflector (R) which is interpreted as the pre-Holocene surface. The upper sedimentary sequence (C) is thought to represent roughly the Holocene and is characterized by parallel/divergent to sigmoidal reflection patterns above (Unit 1) and ...
Source rock potential and organic facies properties of the oligo-miocene deposits in the Pasinler-Horasan, Tercan-Aşkale Basins (East Anatolia)
Tekin, Tansel; Günal Türkmenoğlu, Asuman; Department of Geological Engineering (2002)
The study involves the investigations of source rock potential and their organic facies characteristics and the depositional conditions of the Oligo-Miocene deposits in the Tercan-Aşkale and Pasinler-Horasan Basins (Eastern Anatolia). For this purpose, seven stratigraphic sections from each basin are studied. Organic geochemical and organic petrographic (microscopy based organic facies study) analyses are carried out by using a total of 102 surface samples. The studied sections are composed dominantly of cl...
