Breath sensors for lung cancer diagnosis
Adiguzel, Yekbun; Külah, Haluk (Elsevier BV, 2015-03-15)
The scope of the applications of breath sensors is abundant in disease diagnosis. Lung cancer diagnosis is a well-fitting health-related application of this technology, which is of utmost importance in the health sector, because lung cancer has the highest death rate among all cancer types, and it brings a high yearly global burden. The aim of this review is first to provide a rational basis for the development of breath sensors for lung cancer diagnostics from a historical perspective, which will facilitat...
BREATHING PATTERNS DURING READING SPEECH IN TURKISH
Eşdur, Gamze; Acartürk, Cengiz; Department of Bioinformatics (2021-8-02)
Breathing is a process that is actively involved in speech production and has an impact on pace of reading. The main purpose of this thesis is to study the relationship between text complexity and the breathing pattern of the readers. This study approaches this question from two distinct aspects. First, it asks whether the syntactic complexity of a text affects the breathing frequency during reading in Turkish. Secondly, it investigates whether text complexity influences the readers' decisions on where to r...

Respiratory parameters and sugar catabolism of mushroom (Agaricus bisporus Lange)
Varoquaux, P; Gouble, B; Barron, C; Yıldız, Fatih (Elsevier BV, 1999-05-01)
The respiration rate (RR) of mushroom (Agaricus bisporus Lange, strain X25) under air follows Arrhenius' law with an apparent activation energy of 43 400 J mol(-1) corresponding to a Q(10) of 2.9 between 10 and 20 degrees C. Oxygen from 20 to 1 kPa did not affect RR at temperatures ranging from 5 to 20 degrees C, confirming previous studies. The initial RR of mushroom (same cultivar, flush, growing conditions) measured 24 h after harvesting can vary from 1 to 2 mmol O-2 kg(-1) h(-1) at 10 degrees C. The app...
Air and oxy-fuel combustion behaviour of petcoke/lignite blends
Yuzbasi, Nur Sena; Selçuk, Nevin (2012-02-01)
The pyrolysis and combustion behaviour of a petroleum coke (petcoke), an indigenous lignite and their 70/30 wt.% blend in air and oxy-fuel conditions were investigated by using non-isothermal thermogravimetric method (TGA) coupled with Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer. Blend samples were prepared by mixing lignite, which has low calorific value, high ash and moisture contents with petcoke that has high calorific value, low ash and moisture content, in the proportion of 70:30. Pyrolysis tests w...
