Micromechanically Motivated Modeling of Semicrystalline Polymers
Oktay, Hasan Emre; Gürses, Ercan; Göktepe, Serdar (2017-09-05)
Semicrystalline polymers (SCPs) are of ever increasing technological importance due to their remarkable toughness, good impact strength, very low gas-permeability, superior wear resistance, and biocompatibility. They have been used in applications such as ballistic plates, model aircraft, liquid and gas containers, plastic bags, piping systems, electrical insulation systems, substrates for flexible electronic devices, and joint implants. Owing to amorphous polymer chain networks and crystalline structures, ...
Micromechanical modeling of semicrystalline polymers with spherulite morphology
Oktay, Hasan Emre; Göktepe, Serdar; Gürses, Ercan; Department of Civil Engineering (2020-10-23)
In this study, a micromechanical constitutive model for semicrystalline polymers is developed. The proposed model considers interactions among the adjacent regions at the same length scale. The neighborhood information is obtained from the well characterized spherulite morphology of polyethylene. Deformation characteristics of a disk-like spherulite model that has similarities with the considered modeling approach are studied using the finite element method. The model discretizes a disklike spherulite i...
Microstructural modelling of dual-phase steelsthrough polycrystalline plasticity at RVE level
Güngör, Gönül Öykü; Yalçınkaya, Tuncay; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2019)
In this work the plasticity, localization and the damage behavior of dual phase steels are investigated through both J2 and crystal plasticity frameworks. For this purpose, Voronoi based Representative Volume Elements (RVE) are created with different martensite volume fractions, which are studied at different constant triaxiality values. The micromechanical and the macroscopic constitutive responses are analyzed in detail for considering various loading conditions and microstructural parameters. The results...
Microstructural investigation of Cu2+ doped nanohydroxyapatites
Evis, Zafer (Informa UK Limited, 2010-05-01)
Pure and Cu2+ doped nanohydroxyapatites were synthesised by a precipitation method to investigate the effect of Cu2+ ions on the structure of hydroxyapatite (HA) and its thermal stability after the air sintering at 1100 degrees C. A small amount of CaO was observed in the Cu2+ doped HAs after the X-ray diffraction results. The addition of Cu2+ changed the hexagonal lattice parameters of the HA and resulted in smaller grain size after sintering at 1100 degrees C. The addition of Cu2+ ions into HA resulted in...
Micromechanical modeling of intrinsic and specimen size effects in microforming
Yalçınkaya, Tuncay; Simonovski, I (2018-09-01)
Size effect is a crucial phenomenon in the microforming processes of metallic alloys involving only limited amount of grains. At this scale intrinsic size effect arises due to the size of the grains and the specimen/statistical size effect occurs due to the number of grains where the properties of individual grains become decisive on the mechanical behavior of the material. This paper deals with the micromechanical modeling of the size dependent plastic response of polycrystalline metallic materials at micr...
