Phaseguides as tunable passive microvalves for liquid routing in complex microfluidic networks
Yıldırım, Ender; Joore, Jos; van den Berg, Albert; Hankemeier, Thomas; Vulto, Paul (Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), 2014-01-01)
A microfluidic passive valving platform is introduced that has full control over the stability of each valve. The concept is based on phaseguides, which are small ridges at the bottom of a channel acting as pinning barriers. It is shown that the angle between the phaseguide and the channel sidewall is a measure of the stability of the phaseguide. The relationship between the phaseguide-wall angle and the stability is characterized numerically, analytically and experimentally. Liquid routing is enabled by us...
Phaseguide assisted liquid lamination for magnetic bead-based assays
Phurimsak, Chayakom; Yıldırım, Ender; Trietsch, Sebastiaan J; Hankemeier, Thomas; Tarn, Mark D; Pamme, Nicole; Vulto, Paul (null; 2013-10-27)
We demonstrate a simple, pump-free platform for performing rapid magnetic bead-based processes via their transfer through sequentially laminated liquid streams, made possible by the use of phaseguide technology. We have applied this strategy to two on-chip assays: (i) a streptavidin-biotin binding assay, and (ii) a sandwich immunoassay for the detection of C-reactive protein (CRP). Here, functionalized magnetic beads were pulled through alternating lanes of reagents and buffer solution, allowing multiple ...
Phaseguide assisted liquid lamination for magnetic particle-based assays
Phurimsak, Chayakom; Yıldırım, Ender; Tarn, Mark D.; Trietsch, Sebaastian J; Hankemeier, Thomas; Pamme, Nicole; Vulto, Paul (Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), 2014-01-01)
We have developed a magnetic particle-based assay platform in which functionalised magnetic particles are transferred sequentially through laminated volumes of reagents and washing buffers. Lamination of aqueous liquids is achieved via the use of phaseguide technology; microstructures that control the advancing air-liquid interface of solutions as they enter a microfluidic chamber. This allows manual filling of the device, eliminating the need for external pumping systems, and preparation of the system requ...
Phase-space window and degrees of freedom of optical systems with multiple apertures
Ozaktas, Haldun M.; Öktem, Sevinç Figen (The Optical Society, 2013-04-01)
We show how to explicitly determine the space-frequency window (phase-space window) for optical systems consisting of an arbitrary sequence of lenses and apertures separated by arbitrary lengths of free space. If the space-frequency support of a signal lies completely within this window, the signal passes without information loss. When it does not, the parts that lie within the window pass and the parts that lie outside of the window are blocked, a result that is valid to a good degree of approximation for ...
Phase and TV Based Convex Sets for Blind Deconvolution of Microscopic Images
Tofighi, Mohammad; Yorulmaz, Onur; Koese, Kivanc; Kahraman, Deniz Cansen; Atalay, Rengül; ÇETİN, AHMET ENİS (2016-02-01)
In this paper, two closed and convex sets for blind deconvolution problem are proposed. Most blurring functions in microscopy are symmetric with respect to the origin. Therefore, they do not modify the phase of the Fourier transform (FT) of the original image. As a result blurred image and the original image have the same FT phase. Therefore, the set of images with a prescribed FT phase can be used as a constraint set in blind deconvolution problems. Another convex set that can be used during the image reco...
