Observation of Biexcitons in Nanocrystal Solids in the Presence of Photocharging
Cihan, Ahmet Fatih; Martinez, Pedro Ludwig Hernandez; Keleştemur, Yusuf; Mutlugun, Evren; Demir, Hilmi Volkan (2013-06-01)
In nanocrystal quantum dots (NQDs), generating multiexcitons offers an enabling tool for enhancing NOD-based devices. However, the photocharging effect makes understanding multiexciton kinetics In NQD solids fundamentally challenging, which is critically important for solid-state devices. To date, this lack of understanding and the spectral temporal aspects of the multiexciton recombination still remain unresolved In solid NOD ensembles, which is mainly due to the confusion with recombination of carriers in...
Observation of Transparency of Erbium-doped Silicon nitride in photonic crystal nanobeam cavities
Gong, Yiyang; Makarova, Maria; Yerci, Selcuk; Yerci, Selçuk; Stevens, Martin J.; BAEK, Burm; NAM, Sae Woo; Dal Negro, Luca; Vuckovic, Jelena (2010-06-21)
One dimensional nanobeam photonic crystal cavities are fabricated in an Er-doped amorphous silicon nitride layer. Photoluminescence from the cavities around 1.54 mu m is studied at cryogenic and room temperatures at different optical pump powers. The resonators demonstrate Purcell enhanced absorption and emission rates, also confirmed by time resolved measurements. Resonances exhibit linewidth narrowing with pump power, signifying absorption bleaching and the onset of stimulated emission in the material at ...
Observation of water confined in nanometer channels of closed carbon nanotubes
Naguib, N; Ye, HH; Gogotsi, Y; Güvenç Yazıcıoğlu, Almıla; Megaridis, CM; Yoshimura, M (2004-11-01)
We present a method to fill 2-5-nm-diameter channels of closed multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) with an aqueous fluid and perform in situ high-resolution observations of fluid dynamic behaviour in this confined system. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) observations confirm the successful filling of two types of MWNTs and reveal disordered gas/liquid interfaces contrasting the smooth curved menisci visualized previously in MWNT with diameter above 10 nm. Electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) and e...
Observation of Zeroth-Order Band Gaps in Negative-Refraction Photonic Crystal Superlattices at Near-Infrared Frequencies
Kocaman, Serdar; Panoiu, N. C.; McMillan, J. F.; Yu, M. B.; Osgood, R. M.; Kwong, D. L.; Wong, C. W. (American Physical Society (APS), 2009-5-22)
We present the first observations of zero-n over bar band gaps in photonic crystal superlattices consisting of alternating stacks of negative-index photonic crystals and positive-index dielectric materials in the near-infrared range. Guided by ab initio three-dimensional numerical simulations, the fabricated nanostructured superlattices demonstrate the presence of zeroth-order gaps in remarkable agreement with theoretical predictions across a range of different superlattice periods and unit cell variations....
Observation of Medium-Induced Modifications of Jet Fragmentation in Pb-Pb Collisions at root s(NN)=5.02 TeV Using Isolated Photon-Tagged Jets
Sirunyan, A. M.; et. al. (American Physical Society (APS), 2018-12-01)
Measurements of fragmentation functions for jets associated with an isolated photon are presented for the first time in pp and Pb-Pb collisions. The analysis uses data collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV. Fragmentation functions are obtained for jets with P-T(jet) 30 GeV/c in events containing an isolated photon with p(T)(gamma) 60 GeV/c, using charged tracks with transverse momentum p(T)(trk) > 1 GeV/c in a cone around the jet axis. The ass...
