Paleozoic stratigraphy of the Geyik Dagi unit in the Eastern Taurides (Turkey): New age data and implications for Gondwanan evolution
Göncüoğlu, Mehmet Cemal; Kozur, HW; Kozlu, H (2004-12-01)
The stratigraphy of the Geyik Dagi Unit of the Eastern Taurides has been revised on the basis, of new field observations from this critical tectono-stratigraphic unit. The Emirgazi Formation. of Precambrian age. is shown to occur throughout the whole Tauride Belt. The Cal Tepe Formation probably reaches the Upper Cambrian. The Carnbrian -Ordovician boundary is close to the base of the Seydisehir Formation: the latter includes mixed carbonate-siliciclastic tempestites. Its upper part may be of late Middle Or...
Paleobathymetric evolution of the Miocene deposits of the Gombe sector of the Lycian Foreland and Aksu basins in Antalya, Turkey
Sis, Fatih Seckin; Kouwenhoven, Tanja; Koç, Ayten; Kaymakcı, Nuretdin (2020-01-01)
The evolution of the Lycian Foreland and Aksu basins are associated with the Africa-Eurasia convergence and collision of intervening continental blocks. Both basins developed around the Beydaglari, a Mesozoic carbonate platform, which constitutes the main component and western limb of the Isparta Angle. The Gombe Basin is an integral part of the Lycian Foreland Basin that comprises mainly Eocene to Late Miocene turbidites, onto which the allochthonous Lycian and Antalya nappes thrust over. The Aksu Basin, h...
Jurassic arc volcanism on Crimea (Ukraine): Implications for the paleo-subduction zone configuration of the Black Sea region
Meijers, M. J. M.; Vrouwe, B.; van Hinsbergen, D. J. J.; Kuiper, K. F.; Wijbrans, J.; Davies, G. R.; Stephenson, R. A.; Kaymakcı, Nuretdin; Matenco, L.; Saintot, A. (2010-10-01)
The early Cretaceous and younger opening of the Black Sea has obliterated much of the older record of Tethyan subduction below southeastern Europe. The earlier Mesozoic evolution was dominated by opening and closure of Tethyan oceans between Gondwana and Laurasia with their consumption, at least in part, accommodated along the southern Eurasian margin. Crimea (Ukraine), a peninsula in the northern Black Sea, represents the northernmost region of southeastern Europe that exposes a record of a pre-Cretaceous ...
Paleobathymetric evolution of the miocene deposits of Gömbe and Aksu Basins, Antalya, Turkey
Şiş, Fatih Seçkin; Kaymakcı, Nuretdin; Department of Geological Engineering (2018)
The Late Cenozoic Antalya Basins, located at the eastern part of the Beydağları Platform, within the Isparta Angle, unconformably developed on Mesozoic autochthonous carbonate platforms in the western Taurides. Aksu Basin developed in the inner part of the Isparta Angle and bounded by Aksu Thrust at the east. Gömbe Basin located at the western limb of the Isparta Angle and developed as a foreland basin in front of the Lycin Nappes on the Beydağları Platform. During their evolution, these basins experienced ...
Cretaceous/paleogene boundary in the Haymana basin, Central Anatolia, Turkey: micropaleontological, mineralogical and sequence stratigraphic approach
Esmeray, Selen; Altıner, Demir; Department of Geological Engineering (2008)
An integrated micropaleontological, mineralogical and sequence stratigraphical investigation was carried out across the Cretaceous/Paleogene (K/P) boundary in the Haymana basin, Turkey. A 29.41 m thick boundary section consisting of limestones and marls was measured and 90 samples were analyzed. Biostratigraphic and chronostratigraphic works are based on the planktonic foraminifera. 64 planktonic species were identified and 5 biozones were established. The biozones are, in ascending order, Planoglobulina ac...
