Assessment of the effectiveness of a rockfall ditch through 3-D probabilistic rockfall simulations and automated image processing
AKIN, MUTLUHAN; DİNÇER, İSMAİL; OK, ALİ ÖZGÜN; ORHAN, AHMET; AKIN, MÜGE; Topal, Tamer (2021-03-01)
Rockfall ditches or catchment areas aim to collect falling blocks at the toe of a source zone by dissipating the energy of blocks in an excavated trench. The effectiveness of a rockfall ditch is simply expressed by its block catchment performance and can be evaluated by empirically using existing design charts as well as rockfall simulations. Although 2-dimensional (2-D) analysis has been executed to assess the catchment ditch effectiveness in engineering practice, 3-dimensional (3-D) rockfall models have n...
Evaluation of SAGD performance in the presence of non-condensable gases
Canbolat, S.; Akın, Serhat; Polikar, M. (null; 2004-01-01)
In the steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) process, the addition of small amounts of non-condensable gases to steam may improve oil recovery. The gas accumulates at the top of the reservoir where it provides an insulation effect and forces the steam chamber to spread laterally. The result is a more efficient use of steam and the potential for greater recovery of oil. Six experiments were conducted in two different geometries to study the effect of non-condensable gas on the performance of SAGD. These ex...
Evaluation of the performance of the face slab of a CFRD during earthquake excitation
Arıcı, Yalın (Elsevier BV, 2013-12-01)
The primary goal of this study was to examine the cracking behavior of the face plate of a CFRD during earthquake excitation. Analyses of the impounding stage and earthquake loading were conducted in sequential phases using a 2-D plane-strain model with the appropriate non-linear constitutive relationships for the dam constituents. The effect of rockfill stiffness and the face plate design properties on the seismic performance of the face plate was investigated. The crack widths on the plate increased with ...
Assessing the performance of hybrid lines for disassembly

Tevhide Altekin We consider a disassembly line where the task durations are stochastic (some tasks at certain stations cannot be completed within the cycle time). Our objective is to investigate the performa...
Assessment of the Performance of a Cruise Missile Wing Depending on Design Parameters at Various Flight Conditions
Ertürk, Burak; Yaman, Yavuz (2019-09-03)
The design of a cruise missile wing is a multidisciplinary work, since the wing has to provide enough aerodynamic forces while being structurally safe. In order to meet the design requirements and achieve a successful design, several parameters of the wing need to be investigated at various flight conditions. In this paper, lift forces and flutter speeds are obtained for different wing geometries, at various altitudes and speeds. The design of experiments is constructed by changing the several variables of ...
