Characteristic features of thermoluminescence in neodymium-doped gallium sulfide
Güler, Işıkhan; Ahmedova, F.; Guseinov, A.; Hasanlı, Nızamı (2018-06-01)
The thermoluminescence (TL) of neodymium-doped gallium sulfide (GaS:Nd) single crystals was measured from 10 K to room temperature with various heating rates between 0.2 and 1.0 K/sec. Two peaks centered at 70.9 K and 116.0 K were observed when using a heating rate of 0.8 K/sec. Initial rise and curve fitting methods were used to obtain information on trap activation energies. Activation energies of 94 and 216 meV were found for two analyzable peaks. The heating rate dependencies of TL intensities revealed ...
Pattern of normal faulting in the Gediz Graben, SW Turkey
Ciftci, N. Bozkurt; Bozkurt, Erdin (Elsevier BV, 2009-07-20)
Hanging-wall deformation of the fault systems controlling the southern margin of the Gediz Graben were investigated separately within the Plio-Quaternary and Neogene (predominantly Miocene) deposits of the graben fill. Fault styles observed in both packages share many similarities in terms of geometry and comprise conjugate fault sets that show clustering of strike orientations predominantly around WNW-ESE but also SW-NE and NW-SE directions. The main difference between the two units is observable in terms ...
Distinct patterns of sedimentary phosphorus fractionation and mobilization in the seafloor of the Black Sea, Marmara Sea and Mediterranean Sea
Akçay, İsmail; Yücel, Mustafa (2023-03-10)
Phosphorus (P) is a key element to all life that is used for structural and functional component of all organisms. The cycling of sedimentary P may differ depending on the redox-conditions of the overlying waters affecting the dynamics, and distribution of P-fractions and the elements that are highly coupled to P cycle. Though biogeochemistry of water column in the three interconnected marine basins of Black, Marmara and Mediterranean Seas have been studied extensively, few studies were carried out to under...
Evidence of orbital forcing in lake level fluctuations in the Middle Eocene oilshale bearing lacustrine successions in the Mudurnu Göynük Basin NW Anatolia Turkey
Ocakoğlu, Faruk; Sanem, Acikalin; Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; Şafak, Ümit (2012-01-01)
Mudurnu-Göynük basin of the Sakarya Zone in NW Anatolia comprises ca. 1500 m thick Paleocene–Eocene terrestrial to shallow marine succession overlying the Late Cretaceous deeper marine progradational fore-arc sediments. Formed in a foreland setting in relation to southerly situated İzmir–Ankara suture zone, this terrestrial succession (regionally known as Kızılçay group) comprises a thin (<200 m) oil shale-bearing lacustrine section with very good cyclic patterns that potentially serves the quantification o...
Characteristics of the weathering zones developed within the tuffs of the Midas monument
Topal, Tamer (2001-01-01)
The Midas monument, an impressive cult facade located in the southern part of the Eskiflehir provincein central Anatolia, Turkey, was made within tuffs (white and pink), which now have deterioration problems. Inthis study, the depth and characteristics of the weathering zones that have developed in the white and pink tuffshave been investigated through thin-section studies, X-ray powder diffractometry, methylene blue adsorption tests,major-element analyses, and some index parameters. It has been de...
