Abstract: This study was designed to explore the role of a dynamic geometry course on pre-service teachers’ techno-pedagogical skills about the use of technology in mathematics classroom. During 2010-2011 academic year spring semester eighteen pre-service teachers participated in this study. The research method of the study is a case study. Interviews, observations, lecturer products, student products and reflection papers were used as a data collection tools. The results of the study showed that technology based courses help pre-service teachers to obtain techno-pedagogical skills about mathematics and conceptual understanding related to use of technology in mathematics classroom. Pre-service teachers think that dynamic technology-supported instruction presents an opportunity to enhance mathematical reasoning and explore various conjectures of mathematics. Dynamic software packages such as Geogebra is vital in raising student awareness, challenging their conceptual understanding and motivating students to learn mathematics.

The Effects of using concrete manipulative and GeoGebra on fifth grade students’ achievement in quadrilaterals
Dışbudak, Özge; Akyüz, Didem; Department of Elementary Science and Mathematics Education (2017)
This study aims to examine the effects of activity-based learning using concrete manipulatives, and of activity-based learning using GeoGebra on 5th-grade students’ achievements in quadrilaterals as compared to activity-based learning only. The other purpose is to gain in depth understanding about the effects of used materials (GeoGebra and concrete manipulatives) on students’ explanations on quadrilaterals through conducting interviews. A quasi-experimental mixed method research method was used to examine ...
The development of elementary mathematics teachers’ technological pedagogical content knowledge regarding geometry through mathematics coaching
Aygün, Berna; Işıksal Bostan, Mine; Department of Elementary Education (2016)
The aim of this study was to investigate the Technological Pedagogical Content Kowledge (TPACK) Development of the in-service mathematics teachers in the field of geometry through participating in mathematics coaching. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, two elementary mathematics teachers working in public schools in Black Sea Region participated in the study. The method of qualitative research was used to get deep and rich information about the development of elementary mathematics teachers’ TPA...
Middle school mathematics teachers’ mathematical practices in teaching slope, linear equations, and graphs in technology enhanced classroom environment
Yemen Karpuzcu, Seçil; Işıksal Bostan, Mine; Department of Elementary Education (2017)
The aim of this study was to examine an in-service middle school mathematics teacher’s mathematical practices in teaching slope, linear equations and graphs in a technology enhanced classroom environment while enacting an instructional sequence that was designed based on the national curriculum. The technology utilized in the study was GeoGebra materials within computers that were developed by the teacher and the researcher to be used for the instructional sequence. The data was collected during the spring ...
Developing eighth grade students’ mathematical practices in solids through argumentation: a design-based study
Şahin Doğruer, Şule; Akyüz, Didem; Department of Elementary Education (2018)
The purpose of this study was to obtain classroom mathematical practices of eighth graders’ during the concept of solids and to test the effectiveness of this content in an eighth-grade mathematics classroom. In this respect, an instructional sequence was used with guidance of a hypothetical learning trajectory. The context was basic elements of prisms, their surface area, basic elements of cylinder, its surface area and its volume. The process continued through four and half weeks. Argumentations, dynamic ...
A Case study on middle grade mathematics teachers’ use of questioning in teaching lines and angles
Yılmaz, Ayşenur; Çakıroğlu, Erdinç; Department of Elementary Education (2018)
The purpose of the study was to identify tools that help teachers to use in teacher questioning in middle-grade mathematics classrooms. In addition to this, the study aimed to examine teachers’ questioning behaviors concerning teachers' question types and the interaction among the tools for questioning and question types. This study was applied a multiple case with two middle grade mathematics teachers. The participant teachers were video recorded for the lines and angles topic. In one of the classroom, tec...
