Multiple stationary filamentary states in a planar dc-driven gas discharge-semiconductor system
Rafatov, İsmail (2016-12-01)
Formation of stationary current filaments is studied in a planar layered structure of gas discharge coupled to a high-Ohmic semiconductor and driven by a stationary voltage (the gas discharge-semiconductor system, GDSS). The simulations are carried out in 2D. The model is based on the diffusion-drift theory of gas discharges. Multiple steady-state solutions in GDSS are found for the first time. The computed discharge parameters are found to be in reasonable agreement with the experiment. Results support the...

Two-dimensional translation, rocking, and waves in a building during soil-structure interaction excited by a plane earthquake SV-wave pulse
Gicev, Vlado; Trifunac, Mihailo D.; Orbovic, Nebojsa (2016-09-01)
two-dimensional (2-D) model of a building supported by a rectangular, flexible foundation embedded in the soil is analyzed for excitation by an incident plane SV-wave. The incidence is below the critical angle. The building is assumed to be anisotropic and linear while the soil and the foundation are assumed to be isotropic and can experience nonlinear deformations. In general the work spent for the development of nonlinear strains in the soil can consume a significant part of the input wave energy and thus...
Large deformation analysis of laminated composite plates
Yıldız, Tunahan; Darendeliler, Haluk (null; 2012-01-01)
The objective of this paper is to investigate the behaviour of laminated fibrereinforced composite plates subject to large deformations by developing a shell finite element and to predict the failure by illustrating the critical elements of the model. The laminates are assumed to be orthotropic and the first order shear deformation theory is applied in the formulation by using triangular shell elements. Laminates under transverse loading were analysed for different boundary conditions and ply orientations. ...
