Chemical characterization and anticholinesterase effects of essential oils derived from Salvia species
TEMEL, HALİDE EDİP; Demirci, Betul; Demirci, Fatih; CELEP, FERHAT; KAHRAMAN, AHMET; Doğan, Musa; Baser, Kemal Husnu Can (Informa UK Limited, 2016-01-01)
Inhibitory effect of Salvia species herbal preparations on acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butylcholinesterase (BuChE) activitiy may contribute to regulation of cognitive performance and impaired cholinergic functions in patients with Alzheimer's disease. This functional role of Salvia species and their components makes the investigations on Salvia valuable in medicine-related plant research. Within this work it was aimed to investigate the in vitro anti-cholinesterase effect of essential oils derived from ...
Chemical composition, respiration and feeding rates of the new alien ctenophore, Beroe ovata, in the Black Sea
Finenko, GA; Anninsky, BE; Romanova, ZA; Abolmasova, GI; Kıdeyş, Ahmet Erkan (2001-05-01)
Maximum daily rations of the ctenophore Beroe ovata Brugiere and predatory impacts on the Mnemiopsis leidyi A. Agassiz population were estimated via digestion time, prey biomass and predator and prey density in Sevastopol Bay and adjacent water regions. Digestion times ranged from 0.5 to 5.2 h and depended on the prey/predator weight ratio. Overall, the mean daily ration was 45% of B. ovata wet weight. Preliminary conclusions are given on the B. ovata population as an effective control of the M. leidyi popu...

Chemical composition of the fine and coarse fraction of aerosols in the northeastern Mediterranean
Koçak, Mustafa; Kubilay, Nilguen (2007-11-01)
Two-stage aerosol samples (PM10-2.5 and PM2.5) were collected at a coastal rural site located in the northeastern Mediterranean, between April 2001 and 2002. A total of 562 aerosol samples were analyzed for trace elements (Fe, Ti, Mn, Ca, V, Ni, Zn, Cr) and water-soluble ions (Na+, NH4+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Cl-, Br-, NO3-, SO42-, C2O42- and 3 4 4 MS-:methane sulfonate). PM10, crustal elements, sea salt aerosols and NO3- were mainly associated with the coarse mode SO42-, C2O42-; whereas non-sea salt (nss) SO42-,...
