Fed-batch methanol feeding strategy for recombinant protein production by Pichia pastoris in the presence of co-substrate sorbitol
Celik, Eda; Çalık, Pınar; Oliver, Stephen G. (2009-09-01)
Batch-wise sorbitol addition as a co-substrate at the induction phase of methanol fed-batch fermentation by Pichia pastoris (Mut(+)) was proposed as a beneficial recombinant protein production strategy and the metabolic responses to methanol feeding rate in the presence of sorbitol was systematically investigated. Adding sorbitol batch-wise to the medium provided the following advantages over growth on methanol alone: (a) eliminating the long lag-phase for the cells and reaching 'high cell density productio...
Fed-batch cultivation of bakers' yeast: Effect of nutrient depletion and heat stress on cell composition
Ertugay, N; Hamamci, H; Bayındırlı, Alev (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1997-01-01)
The physiology of a commercial strain of bakers' yeast was studied in terms of the cell composition under different growth conditions and of its response to stress. The study comprised fed-batch experiments since this is the system used in bakers' yeast industry. The classical fed-batch fermentation procedure was modified in that the yeast cells were continuously grown to a steady-state at a dilution rate of 0.1/h in order to achieve more or less the same initial starting point in terms of cell composition....

Stabilized FEM solution of MHD duct flow with conducting cracks in the insulation
Tezer, Münevver; AYDIN, SALİM TUTGUN (2023-05-15)
In this paper, the numerical solution of the fully developed liquid–metal magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow is given in a rectangular duct under an external oblique magnetic field with no-slip and insulated walls containing crack regions. The coupled MHD flow equations are transformed first into decoupled convection–diffusion equations in terms of the velocity and induced magnetic field. Thus, we apply the SUPG stabilization in the finite element method (FEM) solution procedure for high values of Hartmann numb...
