Effects of operational parameters and ultrasonic pretreatment on supercritical CO2 extraction of diesel fuel from soil
Guvenc, A; Mehmetoglu, U; Mehmetoglu, T (Informa UK Limited, 2004-01-01)
Supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) using CO2 was performed on soil material artificially contaminated with diesel fuel. Raising the temperature from 313 K to 343 K caused the recovery efficiency to increase from 52 to 76%. Pressure and CO2 flow rate were found to be less important. As expected, increasing extraction time resulted in higher recoveries. Ultrasonic pretreatment of the soil material was found to be very effective, possibly due to disrupting the strong interaction bonding between soil matrix a...
Effects of inflow boundary layer on the wake of a radially non-uniform porous disk
Abdulrahim, Anas; Akpolat, M. Tuğrul; Hassanein, Abdelrahman; Perçin, Mustafa; Uzol, Oğuz (2021-05-01)
This study presents the results of an experimental investigation focusing on the effects of the inflow boundary layer on the wake characteristics of a 0.12 m diameter porous disk with radially non-uniform porosity in terms of mean flow, turbulence, and wake scaling. Two-dimensional two-component particle image velocimetry measurements within the wake are performed up to 7.5 diameters downstream as the disk is lowered deeper into a boundary layer that is representative of a neutral atmospheric boundary layer...
Effects of polymers and CMC concentration on rheological and fluid loss parameters of water-based drilling fluids
Iscan, A. G.; Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2007-01-01)
Fluid loss during drilling operations has a very significant effect on both reservoir formation damage and monetary terms. There are many additives to control this unwanted phenomenon. Nevertheless, most of these substances are artificial chemicals. Thus, they are not only expensive, but also hazardous to the environment. In this article, a more natural method was applied to overcome the higher filtration problems by employing carboxyl methyl cellulose (CMC) and polymers (XT), DSHV, and MAC PR. Drilling flu...
