Numerical study of Rayleigh Bènard thermal convection via solenoidal bases
Yıldırım, Cihan; Tarman, Işık Hakan; Department of Engineering Sciences (2011)
Numerical study of transition in the Rayleigh-B\'enard problem of thermal convection between rigid plates heated from below under the influence of gravity with and without rotation is presented. The first numerical approach uses spectral element method with Fourier expansion for horizontal extent and Legendre polynomal for vertical extent for the purpose of generating a database for the subsequent analysis by using Karhunen-Lo\'eve (KL) decomposition. KL decompositions is a statistical tool to decompose the...
Numerical studies on eccentrically braced frames
Kuşyılmaz, Ahmet; Topkaya, Cem; Sarıtaş, Afşin; Department of Civil Engineering (2014)
Numerical studies were performed on eccentrically steel braced frames to ascertain seismic performance factors and to examine dynamic characteristics of eccentrically braced frames (EBF). Pursuant to this goal a computer program which facilitates EBF designs was developed. In the first phase, the approximate period formula given in ASCE7-10 was evaluated and a technique based on global deformation characteristics was developed to improve the fundamental period estimates for EBFs. The results indicate that t...
Numerical investigation of delamination in L-shaped cross-ply composite bracket
Gümüş, M.; Gözlüklü, B.; Çöker, Demirkan (null; 2014-01-01)
Interlaminar normal stresses are induced with interlaminar shear stresses leading to mixed-mode delamination (MMD) in curved cross-ply composite laminates. Dynamic mixed-mode delamination is studied using explicit finite element method and Cohesive Zone Modelling Dynamic response of the specimen is compared with the experiments.

Numerical Investigation on Cooling of Small form Factor Computer Cases
ORHAN, OMER EMRE; Tarı, İlker (2008-11-01)
In this study, cooling of small form factor computers is numerically investigated. The problem is a conjugate heat transfer problem in which ambient air is the final heat transfer medium. In modeling the problem, heat transfer using heat pipes running from the CPU to the heat exchanger in the back end of the chassis, forced convection inside the chassis, ventilation of the chassis air, conduction paths inside the chassis, and natural convection from the chassis walls to the ambient air are considered. The n...
