The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of using geometric figures for teaching identities in the form of (ax+b) n by the method of modelling on the success of students, as well as examining the opinions of students received within this framework. The study was conducted with 53 first year students selected by the method of convenience sampling at the vocational school of higher education of a university in the school year of 2015-2016. Mathematics achievement test and student opinion form were used as data collection tools in the study where a mixed design containing qualitative and quantitative data was used. Quantitative data were collected with the help of the pre-and post-test implementation used before and after the training period of four weeks, while qualitative data were collected at the end of the implementation using an opinion form given to the students. The outcomes were described in the study by using t-test results while interpreting quantitative data, and by presentation via direct quoting while interpreting qualitative data. According to the findings obtained, it was concluded that mathematics is not a subject consisting only of formulae, mathematical information may be learned with the help of geometric figures, and representations with geometric figures may lead students to discover different pieces of information. Additionally, the teaching process using modelling enriched by figures, proved to have a significant influence in challenging the impression that subjects of expansion of identities and Pascal's triangle are boring and meaningless piles of formulae. (ax+b) n BİÇİMİNDEKİ ÖZDEŞLİKLERİN MODELLENMESİNDE GEOMETRİK ŞEKİLLERİN KULLANIMININ MESLEK YÜKSEKOKULU ÖĞRENCİLERİNİN BAŞARILARINA VE GÖRÜŞLERİNE OLAN ETKİSİ ÖZET: Bu araştırmanın amacı (ax+b) n şeklindeki özdeşliklerin geometrik şekiller kullanarak matematiksel modelleme yoluyla öğretiminin öğrencilerin başarısına etkisi ve bu çerçevede alınan öğrenci görüşlerinin değerlendirilmesidir. Araştırma 2015-2016 öğretim yılında bir üniversitenin meslek yüksekokulunda bulunan birinci sınıf öğrencilerinden uygun örnekleme yöntemiyle seçilen 53 öğrenci üzerinde yürütülmüştür. Nitel ve nicel verileri barındıran karma desenli bir çalışma olan araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak matematik başarı testi ve öğrenci görüş formu kullanılmıştır. Nicel veriler dört haftalık bir eğitim sürecinin öncesinde ve sonrasında verilen öntest-sontest uygulaması yardımıyla, nitel veriler ise uygulama sonucunda öğrencilere uygulanan görüş formu ile elde edilmiştir. Araştırmada nicel veriler yorumlanırken t-testi sonuçları, nitel veriler yorumlanırken ise doğrudan alıntılama yoluyla sunularak betimleme yapılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgulara göre, matematiğin formüllerden oluşan bir ders olmadığı, geometrik şekiller yardımıyla matematikteki bilgilerin öğrenilebileceği ve geometrik şekillerle gösterimler sayesinde öğrencilerin farklı birtakım bilgileri keşfetmelerine yol açabileceği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Ayrıca görsellerle zenginleştirilmiş modelleme yoluyla öğretim süreci, özdeşliklerin açılımı ve Pascal üçgeni konularının sıkıcı ve anlamsız formül yığını gibi görünen yüzünün yıkılmasında önemli bir etkiye sahip olduğunu göstermiştir.
