In recent years, the development of new technologies to generate clean energy has been a great concern for pollution prevention. There is an increasing demand in the world for energy due to industrialization. This increasing demand forces the scientists to investigate new technologies for production of electricity in a more efficient way. Development of more efficient processes for energy production also aims the process to be cleaner from environmental point of view.

Rethinking wind energy in its social context: conflicting perspectives and planning problems – the Karaburun experience
Özçam, Zeynep; Pınarcıoğlu, Mehmet Melih; Department of City and Regional Planning (2016)
As a result of global concerns about energy related environmental problems, the use of renewable energy resources has gained great importance. The renewables are widely recognized as an effective tool for limiting energy related emissions and a fundamental component of sustainable development. Among these, especially wind energy has considerable involvement. Due to this, major national policies intend to support wind energy and wind energy installations have also started to grow with an expanding rate. Like...
Evaluating the use of satellite-based precipitation estimates for discharge estimation in ungauged basins
Soytekin, Arzu; Akyürek, Sevda Zuhal; Department of Civil Engineering (2010)
For the process of social and economic development, hydropower energy has an important role such as being renewable, clean, and having less impact on the environment. In decision of the hydropower potential of a study area, the preliminary condition is the availability of the gages in the area. However, in Turkey, the gages in working order are limited and getting decreased in recent years. Therefore, the satellite based precipitation estimates has been gaining importance to predict runoff for ungauged basi...
Synthesis of first row transition metal oxide nanomaterials for electrocatalytic water oxidation reaction
Çetin, Asude; Nalbant Esentürk, Emren; Department of Chemistry (2020)
Environmental concerns associated with the use of fossil fuels have elevated the demand for safe, clean and renewable energy sources. Hydrogen is an outstanding energy carrier because of the high amount of energy stored in its bond, and an excellent alternative to fossil fuels. Therefore, production of hydrogen from readily available and abundant sources such as water through electrochemical water splitting has gained increasing attention in the last couple of decades. However, water oxidation step of overa...
Biogas generation by two-phase anaerobic digestion of organic fraction of municipal solid waste
Dogan, Eylem; Demirer, Göksel Niyazi (2012-11-01)
The organic fraction of municipal solid waste can be a significant energy source for renewable energy generation. The total production of municipal solid waste in Turkey was 25 x 10(6) tones per year. Anaerobic digestion (AD) process may be a solution to the problems of energy demand and waste management since it provides biomethanation along with waste stabilization. AD can be operated in single or two phase configurations. Two-phase processes have some advantages over one phase systems in terms of selecti...
Hydrogen production from ethanol over mesoporous alumina based catalysts and microwave reactor applications
Gündüz, Seval; Doğu, Timur; Department of Chemical Engineering (2014)
Due to fast depletion of fossil fuel resources and related environmental impact of CO2 emissions, the interest in hydrogen as a clean energy carrier has recently increased. Hydrogen production from bio-ethanol, which already contains large amount of water, by steam reforming process, has shown excellent potential with CO2 neutrality and renewability. Steam reforming of ethanol (SRE) process has a highly complex reaction network including numerous side reactions which decrease hydrogen yield and have a negat...
