Liquid bridges between spheres in a gravitational field
Bayramlı, Erdal; Abou-Obeid, A; Van De Ven, T.G.M (Elsevier BV, 1987-4)
A theoretical study has been made of the properties of a liquid bridge between spheres of equal and unequal radii taking into account the effect of gravity on the meniscus shape and capillary attractions. The interfacial shape of the bridge is obtained by a numerical solution of the Young-Laplace equation employing the Runge-Kutta method for a given sphere pair, liquid bridge volume, and contact angle. The capillary force, sphere separation, minimum neck diameter, and filling angle of the liquid on both sph...
Liquid slug motion in a voided line
Bozkuş, Zafer (Elsevier BV, 1997-11-01)
Transient individual liquid slug motion in a voided line is investigated both numerically and experimentally. In a series of experiments, slugs of various lengths are propelled into an empty pipe under varying air pressures controlled at an upstream reservoir. The pressure-time histories created by the impacting slugs at an elbow located at the end of the pipe reach are measured, and the peak pressures are in reasonable agreement with results reported in an earlier study. An analytical model is developed to...
LIQUID SCINTILLATOR FILLED CAPILLARY ARRAYS FOR PARTICLE TRACKING
BAHR, J; BIRCKNER, E; CAPONE, A; DEPEDIS, D; FLEGEL, W; FRIEND, B; GRUWE, M; HILLER, K; LENDERMANN, P; MOMMAERT, C; NAHNHAUER, R; PESEN, E; STEFANINI, G; WILQUET, G; WINTER, K; ZACEK, V (1991-08-15)
Coherent arrays of glass capillaries filled with liquid scintillator offer interesting possibilities in high resolution particle tracking. We describe the preparation and filling of capillary targets with 20 and 120-mu-m diameter lightguides, as well as the performance of capillary targets in a 5 GeV test beam exposure. Considerations are given concerning choice and optimization of solvents with high refractive index and fluorescence dyes. Furthermore results of systematic studies of liquid scintillators in...

Circular plates on elastic foundations modelled with annular plates
Utku, M; Citipitioglu, E; Inceleme, I (2000-11-01)
In this paper, a new formulation is presented for the analysis of circular plates supported on elastic foundations. The formulation is based on the flexibility and stiffness methods of structural analysis. Classical thin plate theory for small deformations is applied to obtain the flexibility and stiffness coefficients. The circular plate is represented as a series of simply supported annular plates resting on support springs along their common edges. The computer implementation of the method is given, and ...
