Decoding Cognitive States Using the Bag of Words Model on fMRI Time Series
Sucu, Güneş; Akbaş, Emre; Yarman Vural, Fatoş Tunay (2016-05-19)
Bag-of-words (BoW) modeling has yielded successful results in document and image classification tasks. In this paper, we explore the use of BoW for cognitive state classification. We estimate a set of common patterns embedded in the fMRI time series recorded in three dimensional voxel coordinates by clustering the BOLD responses. We use these common patterns, called the code-words, to encode activities of both individual voxels and group of voxels, and obtain a BoW representation on which we train linear cl...

Bag-of-words (BoW) modeling has yielded successful results in document and image classification tasks. In this study, we explore the use of BoW for cognitive state classification. We estimate a set of common patterns embedded in the Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) time series recorded in three dimensional voxel coordinates by clustering the Blood Oxygen Level Dependent (BOLD) responses. We use these common patterns, called the code-words, to encode activities of both individual voxels and group...
Decoding city squares with big data: A method for urban analytics
Özen, Aslıhan; Gürsel Dino, İpek; Department of Architecture (2022-5-12)
The responsive city nowadays is considered as an assemblage of a large number of complex characteristics. Similar to cities, people's social behavior is a complex system. Seeing cities with Big Data allows architects and urban designers to understand social networks of cities. This study outlines a computational tool to uncover latent characteristics of cities by combining Machine Learning and Social Media Analytics so that it may be possible to render an “image” and visualize a dense web of a city. The the...
Deconvolution and preequalization with best delay LS inverse filters
Tuncer, Temel Engin (Elsevier BV, 2004-11-01)
A new method for finding the best delay for the design of least-squares (1,S) inverse filters is introduced. It is shown that there is a considerable difference between the LS errors of a best delay filter and an arbitrary LS inverse filter. Proposed method is an effective and computationally efficient approach for the design of LS optimum filters. Deconvolution problem is considered and the MSE performances of pseudoinverse, preequalization and LS inverse filtering are investigated. In this respect, the th...
