Kinetic study of methane hydrate formation with the use of a surface baffle
Longinos, Sotirios Nik; Longinou, Dimitra-Dionisia; Celebi, Erdem; Toktarbay, Zhexenbek; Parlaktuna, Mahmut (2021-09-01)
The kinetics of methane gas hydrate formation was obtained by different dual and dual mixed impeller experiments with surface baffle at 42.5 bars pressure and 2 degrees C temperature. The outcomes indicated that induction time is lower in radial flow experiments compared to mixed flow experiments due to better gas liquid contact, uniform shear stress and good pumping capacity compared to mixed flow ones with values less 15 min. Radial flow experiments showed higher values in hydrate yield although the durat...
Kinetic investigation of chemical vapor deposition of B4C on tungsten substrate
Karaman, Mustafa; Sezgi, Naime Aslı; Doğu, Timur; Ozbelge, H. Onder (2006-12-01)
Production of beta-rhombohedral boron carbide (B4C) on a tungsten substrate by the chemical vapor deposition from a BCl3-H-2-CH4 gas mixture was achieved. An impinging-jet reactor was used to minimize the mass-transfer limitations on the reaction kinetics, which made a detailed kinetic investigation possible. Results of the XRD and XPS analyses showed that the solid product formed on the substrate is a rhombohedral B4C phase. Both dichloroborane and boron carbide formation rates were found to increase with ...
Kinetic modeling of enzymatic hydrolysis of pretreated kitchen wastes for enhancing bioethanol production
Çekmecelioğlu, Deniz (Elsevier BV, 2013-03-01)
It is well known that use of low cost and abundant waste materials in microbial fermentations can reduce product costs. Kitchen wastes disposed of in large amounts from cafeterias, restaurants, dining halls, food processing plants, and household kitchens contain high amounts of carbohydrate components such as glucose, starch, and cellulose. Efficient utilization of these sugars is another opportunity to reduce ethanol costs. In this study, the effect of pretreatment methods (hot water, acid solutions, and a...
Kinetic modelling of hydrolyzed lignin pyrolysis using thermal analysis
Musin, Timur; Varfolomeev, Mikhail; Gerasimov, Alexander; Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2017-01-01)
Every day more than 60 tons of hydrolyzed lignin are produced only on one bioethanol manufacturing factory, 25000 tons per year. More than 1 million tons of lignin is produced by wood-recycling factories worldwide, which is being combusted to compensate energy costs or just stored as a waste. We suppose that there is a more sufficient way of its recycling and provide another way of lignin use, assuming the pyrolysis process as one of the pretreatment methods of its reproduction into more favorable derivativ...
Kinetic Analysis of Methane-Propane Hydrate Formation by the Use of Different Impellers
Longinos, Sotirios Nik; Parlaktuna, Mahmut (2021-01-01)
In the present study, the effect of different kinds of impellers with different baffles or no baffle was investigated. Up-pumping pitched blade turbine (PBTU) and Rushton turbine (RT) were the two types of impellers tested. The reactor was equipped with different designs of baffles: full, half and surface baffles, or no baffles. Single (PBTU or RT) and dual (PBTU/PBTU or RT/RT) use of impellers with full (FB), half (HB), surface (SB), and no baffle (NB) combinations formed two sets of 16 experiments. The fi...
