n this paper, the applicability of offshore wind turbines in the North Aegean Region is discussed. Wind data for the region has been obtained from two meteorological stations located at Bozcaada and Gokceada southwest of Canakkale. Based on an hourly time series covering twenty years, seasonal variations and availability of wind velocity have been assessed. To evaluate the wind statistics, Weibull distribution has been applied. It has been found out that the wind power in Bozcaada is much higher than Gokceada, indicating that its perimeter may be a suitable region for the deployment of offshore wind farms.

Future Electrical Generator Technologies for Offshore Wind Turbines
Keysan, Ozan (2015-01-01)
In this article, different electric generator topologies for offshore wind turbines will be reviewed. Although, the most common generator type used in the onshore wind turbines is the doubly-fed induction generator, different generator designs are proposed for large offshore wind turbines, which operate in harsher conditions and are difficult to maintain. Some of these designs are direct-drive permanent magnet generators, hydraulic power take-off systems and superconducting generators.
Offshore wind farm site selection for Aegean and Mediterranean Sea, Turkey
Yıldız, Hatice Kübra; Oğuz, Elif; Huvaj Sarıhan, Nejan; Department of Civil Engineering (2021-8-26)
This thesis was focused on investigating potential sites in the Aegean and Mediterranean Sea for offshore wind turbines considering a number of criteria such as water depth, wind speed, grid connectivity, etc. Prior to that, all major floating offshore wind turbine installations in Europe and across the World were reviewed. The current status of the offshore wind industry in terms of technology and supporting mechanisms were summarized. Following this, potential sites were mapped using collected data from a...
Modeling electrical energy production in Northwestern Cyprus based on solar and wind measurements
Yenen, Mehmet; Fahrioğlu, Murat; Sustainable Environment and Energy Systems (2015-1)
This thesis presents the solar and wind energy assessment and aims to model the link between measurement and electrical energy production from wind and solar resources in Northwestern Cyprus. The measurement systems were installed and the measurements from these systems were analyzed thoroughly to meet the expectations of this thesis. Existing mathematical models were used to calculate electrical energy production figures for wind and solar energy. A circuit based Photovoltaic (PV) model from the literature...
Offshore wind farms: Potential and applicabilityin the Southern Marmara Region, Turkey
Oğuz, Elif; İncecik, Atilla (null; 2013-10-17)
In this study, applicability of offshore wind energy conversion systems in the Southern Marmara Region has been investigated. For this purpose, four different regions were selected and wind properties of the regions were assessed. Selected regions have been analyzed by taking into account the wind data measured as mean daily time series. The wind data used in this study has been taken from Mete- orological Data Archive and Management System of Turkish State Meteorological Service (TUMAS- TSMS)....
Feasibility analysis of solar photovoltaic-wind hybrid energy system for household applications
Al-Turjman, Fadi; Qadir, Zakria; Abujubbeh, Mohammad; Batunlu, Canras (Elsevier BV, 2020-09-01)
The significance of renewable energy resources provide a great opportunity to meet a single household electricity demand in Northern Cyprus. Purposefully, a 6 kW PV-Wind hybrid system seems to offer significant economic savings relative to the conventional grid system. Therefore, the main intention is to shed light on the technical as well as economic feasibility of combining renewable sources. The solar irradiance and wind speed data are analyzed for four populous cities of TRNC using RET-Screen software. ...
