Kıyıyı yaşamak, kıyıyı planlamak

2011-10-15

Growth control at the urban fringe: planning and policy instruments – the case of Ankara
Sınacı, Fulya; Gedikli, Bahar; Department of City and Regional Planning (2016)
Urban growth dynamics play an important role in determining the future scenarios of cities and in the shaping of the urban form. Although spatial growth can be considered as an opportunity to provide new living and working places for growing populations, it is arguable whether all decisions aimed at physical growth are compatible with local dynamics. Even if growth is needed, considering the conditions of a locality, it is not always easy to control this growth and prevent it from turning into sprawl. Previ...

Urban infrastructure systems are high-cost urban components that provide physical and socio-economic functioning in daily life and affect livability and modernization processes. This framework emerges from the qualities of built environments which are defined with reference to the normative urban design theory developed by Kevin Lynch. Urban qualities are defined with a comprehensive approach which t...
Interpretable spatio-temporal networks for modeling and forecasting societal events
Ertuğrul, Ali Mert; Taşkaya Temizel, Tuğba; Department of Information Systems (2019)
The relationships between individual activities and societal events (e.g. migrations, social movements) are complex due to the various social, temporal and spatial factors. Understanding such relationships in the context of various societal events such as street protests and opioid crisis, and forecasting these events are important as they have great impacts on public policies and supporting decision making of authorities. In this thesis, novel, spatio-temporal, deep neural networks are proposed (i) to fore...
Social stratification and consumption profiles of Ankara :A case study in Ankara Residential Areas
Akpınar, Figen; Aktüre, Sevgi; Department of City and Regional Planning (2005)
This dissertation attempts to develop a social stratification model considering its spatial dimension for the households in the city of Ankara. The spatiality of social class has rarely been in the agenda of scholars and has not been explored empirically. For this reason, the study aims to test the hypothesis that social segregation in Turkish cities is empirically measurable and manifests itself in the common patterns of behaviours and similar conditioning of existence in the urban space. The focus of atte...
