3’UTR alterations in connection with estrogen receptor-alpha in breast cancer
Öyken, Merve; Erson Bensan, Ayşe Elif; Department of Biology (2014)
Alternative polyadenylation (APA) generates transcript isoforms with different 3’UTR (untranslated region) lengths due to the position of poly(A) tail. This difference may alter the stability and location of mRNA isoforms in cell. APA has been observed in various cellular states. For example, preferential use of distal poly(A) sites and 3’UTR lengthening occurs during development. However, in proliferation, use of poly(A) sites result with 3’UTR shortening for a large group of genes. In cancer cells, APA se...

3-d model studies of alkaline flooding using horizontal wells
Bağcı, Ali Suat (Informa UK Limited, 2004-07-02)
In this study, the effect of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution for the improved oil recovery of Garzan (26degreesAP1) crude oil was investigated using two different laboratory models. The effect of injection rate on oil recovery was investigated using a one-dimensional unconsolidated limestone reservoir model. The effect of horizontal and vertical well configurations on oil recovery was also studied using a 3-D physical model and various well configurations. As previously studied, the interfacial tension mea...
3-dimensional measurements of morphological properties of particles
Hicyilmaz, C; Bilgen, S (1996-09-26)
Morphological properties of particles are important in mineral processing. Flotation recoveries are affected by surface roughness and acuteness of particles. A novel technique was developed to measure the morphological properties of particles 3- dimensionally. Pyrite sample ground in autogeneous and ball mill to differentiate the surface properties was used in this study.
