Production of high carbon ferromanganese from a manganese ore located in Erzincan
Çardaklı, İsmail Seçkin; Sevinç, Naci; Öztürk, Tayfur; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2010)
Main purpose of this study was to investigate the production of high carbon ferromanganese by smelting a manganese ore located in Erzincan. Time, charge basicity, fluorspar addition and coke to ore weight ratio were used as experimental variables. After characterization of the ore, a mixture of 100 grams of uncalcined manganese ore and carefully weighed amounts of coke powder, lime, fluorspar and scrap iron were put into a conical graphite crucible. The graphite crucible with its contents was covered with a...
Production of calcium sulfoaluminate cements using waste materials
Canbek, Ogulcan; Erdoğan, Sinan Turhan (null; 2019-06-16)
The high environmental impact of ordinary portland cement (OPC) is due to its main mineral, alite (C3S), which needs elevated kiln temperatures and high lime content to form. In calciumsulfoaluminate (CS̄A) clinkers, ye’elimite (C4A3S̄ ) forms as the main clinker phase and alite doesnot. Ye’elimite can form at 200-250 °C lower temperatures and has ~40 % lower lime contentthan alite which makes CS̄A cements a promising alternative to OPC. Bauxite is typically used asa raw material to satisfy the great alumina...

Production of lightweight aerated alkali-activated slag pastes using hydrogen peroxide
Sahin, Murat; Erdoğan, Sinan Turhan; Bayer, Özgür (Elsevier BV, 2018-08-30)
This study investigated the production of lightweight aerated alkali-activated slag pastes (LAAASP) using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). A mixture of sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate solution was used for the activation of slag. Physical, mechanical, and thermal properties of samples cured under different curing conditions were investigated. Various water-to-slag ratios (W/S) and H2O2 contents were used to explore the expansion mechanism of fresh mixtures and to investigate their effect on apparent density. ...
Production of low-energy cements using various industrial wastes
Canbek, Oğulcan; Erdoğan, Sinan Turhan; Department of Civil Engineering (2018)
One economical method of lowering the cement related impact of concrete is partial replacement using industrial wastes like fly ash, natural pozzolan, etc. On the one hand its maximum kiln temperature being 150-200°C lower than that required for PC and higher grindability of its clinker make calcium sulfoaluminate(CSA) cements preferable. This study aims to produce CSA cement with partially or completely replace traditional raw materials with some industrial wastes such as fly ash,red mud and desulfogypsum an...
