GAP: An Irrigation And Development Project In Turkey
Taraklı, Duran (Middle East Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, 1989)
The Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) in Turkey, which was initiated in 1976 with the Karakaya Dam consists of thirteen major projects. Twenty-two dams and seventeen hydroelectric power plants (HPP) with a total capacity of 7 561 MW will be constructed as part of it. GAP will provide irrigation for 1641282 hectares of land and will have an annual output of 25 003 GWh of power (1). Turkey has about 27.7 million hectares (ha) of land suitable for agriculture. Surveys show that it is economically feasible to...
End-to-end networks for detection and tracking of micro unmanned aerial vehicles
Aker, Cemal; Kalkan, Sinan; Department of Computer Engineering (2018)
As the number of micro unmanned aerial vehicles (mUAV) increases, several threats arise. Hence, there is a need for a system that can detect and track them. In this thesis, an object detection model based on convolutional neural networks for mUAV detection, and a novel end-to-end object tracking architecture are proposed. To solve the scarce data problem for training the detection network, an algorithm for creating an extensive artificial dataset by combining background-subtracted real images is proposed. I...
Event-driven MAC Protocol For Dual-Radio Cooperation
Khatibi, Arash; Durmus, Yunus; Onur, Ertan; Niemegeers, Ignas (2012-01-01)
One of the sources of the energy waste in wireless sensor networks is idle listening, the time in which a node monitors the free channel. In applications where the events occur sporadically, energy consumption due to idle listening can be further reduced by dual-radio cooperation. In dual-radio cooperation, nodes in the network have two stacks. One stack makes use of a low-power wake-up radio for event-driven communication over the main radio. The other stack may employ any sensor networking medium access c...
FPGA implementation of real time digital video super resolution for infrared cameras
Aktukmak, Mehmet; Halıcı, Uğur; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2013)
At present, the quality of image taken from infrared cameras is low compared to the other cameras because of manufacturing technology. So, resolution enhancement processes are becoming more important for these cameras. Super resolution is a good approach to solve this resolution problem. In general, the systems that infrared cameras used require video processing to perform in real time. So, a suitable approach should be selected and implemented to work in real time. The computational load and processing tim...
Pseudo-Dynamic Testing and Analytical Modeling of AAC Infilled RC Frames
Sucuoğlu, Haluk (2014-01-01)
Two concrete frames were tested by the PsD procedure. One frame was bare and the other was infilled with AAC blocks in the middle bay. The objective was to determine the effect of AAC infills on the seismic performance of reinforced concrete frames and developing an AAC strut model. Based on the test results, it was found that AAC infill panels did not modify the deformation response of the RC test frame significantly; however, shear in diagonal strut must be considered in boundary column design. A shear de...
