To manufacture a polyethylene film containing zeolite particles for the packaging of foods six manufacturing methods were tried: hot pressing, addition of zeolite to molten polyethylene and dissolved polyethylene solution, coating polyethylene beads with zeolite in a revolving heating pan, extrusion of polyethylene beads with zeolite and hot pressing of the extruded mix film. The experiments were repeated with three different particle sizes of zeolites received from the Bigadi¸c mine belonging to Etibank. The film produced by the hot pressing of co-extruded zeolite-polyethylene film was found to be quite satisfactory as a packaging material

An Electrochemical Procedure to Form Metal Powders from Recycled Hard Particle Embedded Composite Cutting Tools
Altunbasak, Tansu; KUL, MEHMET; Karakaya, İshak (2017-06-01)
Used valuable particle embedded composite cutting tools, obtained by powder metallurgy techniques by mixing metallic powders with hard, abrasive particles were electrolyzed for reclamation of metallic powders and valuable particles. The effects of copper ion and sulfuric acid concentrations and pH of the electrolyte, current density and temperature on microstructure of produced copper powders were investigated in detail. Copper powders were characterized by X-Ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron micr...
Preparation and investigation of hybrid self-healing coatings containing linseed oil loaded nanocapsules, potassium ethyl xanthate and benzotriazole on copper surface
Mahmoudian, Mehdi; Nozad, Ehsan; Ghasemıkouchameshgı, Mahmoud; Enayati, Mojtaba (2018-07-01)
The effectiveness of self-healing epoxy and polyurethane hybrid coatings filled with linseed oil (LO) containing nano-sized capsules, potassium ethyl xanthate and benzotriazole was investigated for self-healing and anticorrosion performance on the copper metal films. The characteristics of synthesized nanocapsules were studied by fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) for chemical structure, thermal stability an...
Ternary nanocomposites of low density, high density and linear low density polyethylenes with the compatibilizers E-MA-GMA and E-BA-MAh
Işık Coşkunses, Fatma; Yılmazer, Ülkü; Department of Chemical Engineering (2011)
The effects of polyethylene, (PE), type, compatibilizer type and organoclay type on the morphology, rheological, thermal, and mechanical properties of ternary low density polyethylene (LDPE), high density polyethylene (HDPE), and linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE), matrix nanocomposites were investigated in this study. Ethylene – Methyl acrylate – Glycidyl methacrylate terpolymer (E-MAGMA) and Ethylene – Butyl acrylate- Maleic anhydrate terpolymer (E-BA-MAH) were used as the compatibilizers. The organo...
Characterization and enhancement of IR optical and tribological properties of DLC films synthesized by RF-PECVD
Taburoğlu, Vahit Eren; Özenbaş, Ahmet Macit; Akata Kurç, Burcu; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2017)
This thesis analyzes the hydrogenated amorphous diamond like carbon (a-DLC) films coated on aluminum substrates by the technique of plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD). Effects of film thickness, hydrogen content and RF power on the tribology, optical characteristics and structure are observed and studied in detail. DLC films have compressive intrinsic stresses by default. Surface topography revealed by an interferometer shows that too low/high compressive stress is detrimental to the film. In...
Development of high performance active materials for microbolometers
Eroğlu, Numan; Akın, Tayfun; Turan, Raşit; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2011)
This thesis reports the development of Vanadium Tungsten Oxide (VWO) film as an active detector material for uncooled infrared detectors by using the reactive DC magnetron co-sputtering method. VWO is a doped form of the Vanadium Oxide (VOx) which is known as a prominent material for uncooled infrared detectors with its high TCR, low resistivity, and low noise properties. VOx is a widely preferred material for commercialized uncooled infrared detectors along with its drawbacks. Fabrication is fairly difficu...
